00:00Good evening, Luzon Visayas and Mindanao.
00:05A car crashed in Edsa Ortigas' flyover last night.
00:10It was seen driving while being burned.
00:14The driver got out of the car after being attacked by his fellow motorists,
00:17accompanied by a man who was asking for gasoline.
00:19No one was injured in the incident, even though it resulted in heavy traffic.
00:25Maris Umali is on the scene.
00:31The driver of this car was caught on CCTV in Edsa Ortigas' flyover northbound
00:36after being attacked by a few motorists.
00:39He glanced at the back of the car, which suddenly flared up.
00:42He tried to approach the front of the car, but it didn't move,
00:46and slowly walked away.
00:48While the car was flaring up, it was seen on the CCTV that it was moving.
00:52It even crossed the road.
00:54The motorists were stopped in the lane because of the car's flaring up.
01:00A few moments later, a few firemen arrived to put out the fire.
01:05While the police were trying to evacuate the motorists,
01:07the surrounding area was covered with smoke.
01:09The car was burned to ashes.
01:13According to the driver, he was on his way home from Pasay
01:16when he was attacked by a fellow motorist.
01:18He was told that the car's gasoline was leaking.
01:20He couldn't do anything, but the car was on fire.
01:23No one was injured in the incident,
01:25even though it caused heavy traffic to Edsa Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City.
01:32According to Quezon City Police District Station 12,
01:35the driver of the car was hit on his left and right foot.
01:40The first aid was immediately provided by the medical team of the MMDA.
01:44Currently, the PNP and Bureau of Fire Protection are helping the investigation
01:49on the cause of the car's flaring up.
01:51According to the Automobile Association of the Philippines,
01:54there are three possible causes of the car's flaring up.
01:56First, the gas leaking.
01:59Second, the electrical fire or the flaring of the current inside.
02:03The third one is possibly the catalytic converter overheating
02:07or the engine overheating.
02:09Usually, the vehicle fire is caused by a modification that is not proper.
02:18It's like a gasoline fire because there's a gasoline trail while it's rolling on the flyover
02:25and there's a gas fire on the ground.
02:28It means to say a fuel line has leaked
02:31or even by mere gravity that the tank was emptying onto the road.
02:36And it flared up.
02:38They remind us that if the car is flaring up or has a smell,
02:41don't continue driving.
02:43There should be a presence of mind.
02:45Stop the car.
02:48Get out of the car.
02:52Don't wait. Get everybody out of the car.
02:58I think the driver did a very nice job of exiting his vehicle on time.
03:02So much panic and so much to attend to in that emergency.
03:06You cannot blame this guy.
03:14But if you don't know how to do it,
03:16I will tell you, don't try.
03:17Because usually, when there's a fire under the hood,
03:23the hood will be opened.
03:25When the hood is opened like that,
03:26that just feeds more oxygen into the fire.
03:29That fire will just grow bigger and bigger.
03:35Regular preventive maintenance.
03:38And only get accessories and modifications that are from a trained professional.
