00:00Creation of new countries will neither have a bearing on India's long-standing and consistent
00:06position regarding our sovereignty over the area, nor lend legitimacy to China's illegal
00:12and forcible occupation of the sea.
00:14We have lodged a solemn protest with the Chinese side through diplomatic channels.
00:19I have two questions, both related to China.
00:21One, there is a dam being built and it's being reported to be the world's biggest dam, largest
00:28dam for that matter, on the Chinese part of the Brahmaputra river, it will affect definitely
00:35India and Bangladesh.
00:36While China says that it won't affect that much to India and Bangladesh, but will India
00:41have a response to that?
00:42A, B, there are two new counties that have been created, one by China and one of those
00:48counties has a significant part of up-side-China into it.
00:52So what will be your response to that?
00:54Rishabh, your question on China.
00:59First about the dam that you referred to, we have seen the information released by Xinhua
01:07on 25th December 2024 regarding a hydropower project on the Yarlung-Sangpo river in the
01:16Tibet Autonomous Region of China as a lower riparian state with established user rights
01:23to the waters of the river.
01:25We have consistently expressed through expert level as well as diplomatic channels our views
01:32and concerns to the Chinese side over mega projects on rivers in their territory.
01:39These have been reiterated along with the need for transparency and consultation with
01:45downstream countries following the latest report.
01:49The Chinese side has been urged to ensure that the interests of downstream states of
01:54the Brahmaputra are not harmed by activities in upstream areas.
01:59We will continue to monitor and take necessary measures to protect our interests.
02:07You also had a question regarding the counties.
02:10We have seen the announcement pertaining to the establishment of two new counties in Hotan
02:16Prefecture of China.
02:18Parts of jurisdiction of these so-called counties fall in India's Union Territory of Ladakh.
02:27We have never accepted the illegal Chinese occupation of Indian territory in this area.
02:35Creation of new counties will neither have a bearing on India's long-standing and consistent
02:40position regarding our sovereignty over the area, nor lend legitimacy to China's illegal
02:46and forcible occupation of the same.
02:49We have lodged a solemn protest with the Chinese side through diplomatic channels on this matter.
