Stoney and Costa give their thoughts on the Sunday night showdown between the Lions and the Vikings.

00:00Stoney the game mm-hmm talked about a bunch of ways to open lines right now if

00:03you just want to talk football with us but we asked people for their word the

00:07one word to describe their feelings heading into this matchup and I said

00:11psyched this is what you want as a fan to have your team in big games to have

00:18them at home to feel like you can win said big game I'm psyched let's get to

00:23game day well we're close guys a buzz because I just think that building and

00:27thankfully I'm gonna be there although not cheering or drinking will be just a

00:33constant buzz and yell and downtown is gonna be buzzing I it's gonna be awesome

00:40we even had like we talked about this earlier in the week there has not been a

00:45more anticipated regular season game with this much meaning since the 1987

00:54last game in the regular season for the Tigers and the Blue Jays now you could

00:58argue that the anticipation because of the front page of the papers the March

01:0326th avalanche Red Wings game was anticipated like this but there was no

01:10basic playoff ramifications the stakes weren't the same although what happened

01:15actually everybody says did lead the Red Wings oh absolutely I mean as part of

01:20that that shift everybody knows it's at stake the one seed versus the five seed

01:25what it means to home games versus potentially three road games to the

01:28Super Bowl one is and you're a golfer so I give you this analogy one is you're

01:32hitting it on the fairway you're the one seed everything's nice at your house you

01:38lose you gotta go to the rough yeah you gotta go through the hard way and the

01:41lines are defeated on the road so it's not like they'd be disqualified but it

01:44would be a significant disadvantage to winning the Super Bowl so you gotta win

01:48this game and I think that's what they're set up to do this offense with

01:52Jared Goff and Ben Johnson have had a lot of success against Brian Flores who's

01:56a respected defensive coordinator mm-hmm they have the creative exotic blitzes

02:00that here's a problem though they give up yards after the catch they give a big

02:03explosive plays and if you can diagnose the blitz you got a good offensive line

02:07your backs help you tight ends help you'll get the big plays and Jared Goff

02:11has and this offense has scored 30 points the last three meetings this year

02:16and last year in this game so I think the Lions offense will continue to

02:21march at home and score a bunch of points can they get a key stop I'm higher

02:25on Sam Darnold than I think some Lions fans are I really think we have to be

02:28fair about this if we can believe our quarterback could be resurrected why

02:32can't theirs and Darnold's had big throws all season long but he's also put

02:37the ball in harm's way and the path for the Lions win is a turnover Sam Darnold

02:41the third most turnover worthy plays in the league he's gonna be on the road in

02:45a loud environment gotta keep up can't screw up and if he does the Lions pounce

02:50on him and it's it's why I think they win I'll be at a close game I respect

02:53Minnesota but I think the Lions get it done and that's why I'm psyched I think

02:57the resurrection of Sam Darnold is I think comparing it to Jared Goff is a

03:04little short-sighted on your part because we're Sam Darnold came from was

03:09way lower in the resurrection department than Jared Goff and yet statistically

03:14he's had a season mirroring that of Jerry Goff this year I understand that

03:17but I don't think his depths Jared right Jared Goff's depths were not as bad as

03:24Sam Darnold's depths okay so you're saying I'm not giving Darnold enough

03:27credit then yeah but I think I guess you could say that as far as the

03:31resurrection angle goes but I don't think people realize that Jared Goff you

03:36know look people just look at Jared Goff as you know also the you know the number

03:42one number one you know one one guy coming in here coming into the league

03:47they forget how good he was with the Rams for a while he was really good and

03:53everybody oh he lost the Super Bowl yeah you know what they lost in New England

03:56what a really good defense and you know just just look at the fourth quarter of

04:00the NFC Championship game that they got him there but he talks about the bad

04:04call and all that kind of stuff that screwed New Orleans no Jared Goff had

04:09made some impressive throws in that game at the same time though he left LA

04:15disgraced yeah he was fragile the pressure would get to him like literal

04:21on field pressure and he would he would turn into a turnover machine he didn't

04:26have any like I know you cite a couple big playoff throws he never had a

04:29signature playoff game I don't think he had a game where he threw for 300 yards

04:32I don't think he threw for more than a single touchdown in any of those playoff

04:35games in LA he clearly had talent that needed to be unlocked yeah and Detroit

04:39has brought him in they've pumped up his confidence he has taken his game to

04:43another level it's a credit to him but both these quarterbacks have done that

04:47and they're both quarterbacking 14 win teams and they're gonna play a game

04:51that's expected to be a shootout totals over 56 I mean that's one of the

04:54highest scoring totals you're gonna see in the league not just this week all

04:57season I know so I trust the Lions offense to win the shootout and I trust

05:01the Lions defense to get the takeaway because of Darnold's more erratic play

05:05that's the thing with golf he had the five interception game but outside of

05:08that Stoney yeah guys made very few mistakes and I feel bad that everybody

05:13labels it as a five interception game it is fact but the one of the Hail Mary at

05:17the end of the first half I mean come on really called a four interception game

05:20it's not much better well yeah I don't know just see if only two or three are

05:24on him it's still a rough game yeah it's the needle in the haystack it's the only

05:28time it's happened yes
