Carry out projects to tackle floods and poverty without delay, says Anwar

Critical projects for flood mitigation and eliminating hardcore poverty must be expedited as they involve people's lives and well-being, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.   He urged the secretaries-general of all ministries to study these issues and take proactive measures by visiting the affected areas, to personally assess the problems faced by the people. 00:16sometimes it takes time.

00:19At the end, when KSN talks about flood control,

00:25Malaysia's plan,

00:27this year is the beginning,

00:29in 3 years it will be the second phase,

00:31in 6 years it will be the third phase.

00:34I agree with the discussion,

00:36we have to take care of all of that.

00:39If floods sacrifice lives,

00:42sacrifice property,

00:43don't wait for 6 years.

00:46If we need to save,

00:47instead of other expenses, we save.

00:50If we need to borrow, we borrow.

00:53But all programs like poverty and drought,

00:58flood control,

00:59must be accelerated

01:01and not follow the 5-6 year deadline.

01:04It must be accelerated now,

01:07so that in a short time,

01:09the problem can be solved as best as possible.

01:15So, these are things that need to be investigated by all KSU.

01:21If not, the new KSU will come.

01:23Then, look at the flood scheme for phase 1,

01:28the long-term flood is ready.

01:30Phase 2, in 2026.

01:32Phase 3, in 2029.

01:34So, the long-term flood has to wait 15 years before it's ready.

01:39It doesn't have to be a national effort,

01:42I don't want to hear that.

01:45we must solve it.

01:47Cooperation and change,

01:51of course, involve a lot of financial incentives.

01:55But if we need to cut the incentives from other places,

01:59we cut it.

02:00And we must solve the basic needs of the people.

02:05That's why we give priority to education, health,

02:10and of course, public safety.

02:13So, how can we think like this?

02:18If we sit down and discuss carefully,

02:23then go down and see for ourselves

02:27what the people are facing.
