00:00Hey, I'm Melissa Joan Hart, and this is Take Us Back.

00:03Okay, so this must have been like my Shirley Temple era,

00:05where with my curly hair.

00:07This is insane.

00:08Like, I went through an era, even on,

00:10this is on Sabrina days, I believe.

00:14Because I think that dress, I was very into Vivian Tam,

00:16and I think that's a Vivian Tam dress.

00:18And my hairdresser and I had come up

00:20with like a healthier way to do curls,

00:22which was like in an iron, the iron in the oven.

00:25And so I remember I went through a whole phase,

00:26I think on Sabrina, where we did a lot of curls.

00:28So this is obviously the curl era.

00:30Yeah, so you take the curling iron,

00:32and it's like, I forget what it's called,

00:33but it's like a little hot oven.

00:35It's open, and you stick it in there,

00:37and it gets hot, and it comes out.

00:38So it's not electric heat,

00:39it's like more of a steamy heat, I think.

00:41So it makes these really, really tight barrel curls.

00:44And my hair is really fine, so it holds it.

00:46Like, it does not let go.

00:48This is at one of the MTV Rockin' Jock baseball games,

00:52me and Ryan Reynolds.

00:53We had done the movie Sabrina, the Teenage Witch,

00:56the original movie, which we filmed in Vancouver,

00:57which is where Ryan's from.

00:59And so he played the guy that I was trying to get,

01:02I think, but I actually go to Harvey.

01:05I realize he's not, he's a bad boy, he's not for me.

01:08But Ryan and I created a really wonderful friendship,

01:10and there's another picture from this game

01:12where we're talking to each other very intently,

01:14and I wish I could remember what we were talking about,

01:16but for some reason we were like really

01:18deep in conversation.

01:20But yeah, I guess we took a few pictures,

01:22and I remember I jammed my thumb in this game.

01:24Ken Griffey Jr. hit like a line drive,

01:28and I had my thumb in the mitt and jammed my finger,

01:31and I had a black finger for like,

01:33I don't know, months from this game.

01:34So one of the most painful nights of my life right there.

01:38Not because of Ryan.

01:40Oh my gosh, this is probably my first red carpet.

01:43I'm with Tia and Tamara Mowry, and Jenna Bonoi here,

01:47who I just saw like a week ago for the first time in years.

01:50And Andrea, and I mean, we were, Jodi,

01:52we were going to like a kid's choice award?

01:56Not Nickelodeon kid's choice award,

01:58maybe like there's like a youth in film award

02:01or something like that.

02:02And I think it was like my first time really in a limo,

02:04pulling up to a red carpet and walking out.

02:06These girls all knew how to do it.

02:07Like Jenna knew how to work the red carpet.

02:09She's standing there, hand on the hip,

02:10smiling for every camera, and I'm like,

02:13what do I do?

02:14Who do I look at?

02:15There's so many cameras.

02:16And I was just like a little embarrassed,

02:17but I followed her lead, and she was a great sort of,

02:20I mean, she didn't know she was teaching me,

02:21but she taught me kind of how to handle that situation.

02:24So that was fun.

02:25And I still love all these girls.

02:29This was at some kind of publicity event thing,

02:33and I was pregnant with my first son,

02:34and we were on like, it's almost like a photo booth

02:37before they had photo booths.

02:38So that's why it's green in the back,

02:39because they could switch the background.

02:41And I'm wearing my,

02:43I refused to wear maternity clothes back then.

02:45So this is honestly just a brand called Hardtail

02:48from like the early 2000s,

02:50which had elastic waistband stuff

02:52before leggings, Lululemon was around.

02:54So everything was very stretchy.

02:56So I was just wearing like this stretchy skirt

02:57and stretchy top, and my husband's kissing my belly.

03:01So weird.

03:02It's like a lifetime ago.

03:03Oh, this is me and JC from NSYNC.

03:07And we were friends back when I was at Orlando Nickelodeon.

03:12He was on the Mickey Mouse Club,

03:13and we were friends back then.

03:15And then of course, during the Sabrina years

03:18and NSYNC's big rise to fame,

03:20we were kind of always put in the same situations.

03:22I was hosting the American Music Awards,

03:24they're winning awards.

03:25We're at the, you know, TRL or all these things,

03:28the same, I was, you know, kind of in the same circles

03:30as like Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears

03:31and Christina Aguilera and everyone.

03:33Keri Russell was around a lot in this time too.

03:35And so a lot of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse kids

03:39that I knew from childhood or teen years

03:42were now all, we're all in Hollywood

03:43and we're running into each other at these parties.

03:45So I think I was talking to them.

03:47It looks like, I think I was on my knees on the floor

03:49because I kind of always get down on the floor,

03:50which makes people very uncomfortable.

03:52But I'm sure I was like just talking to him.

03:54He was sitting there.

03:55I just wanted to like get on the floor in front of him

03:56and then someone snapped a picture.

03:59Luckily.

04:00Okay, so this is 90's Con recently,

04:03maybe last year, with a lot of the cast.

04:06Beth and Caroline and Nate, who played Harvey,

04:09and Elisa Donovan and Jenna Vanoi, who played Libby.

04:12And we've all been showing up at these 90's Cons.

04:14They have them in Hartford, Connecticut

04:16and they have them in Florida.

04:17And it's been such fun to have people

04:20kind of come back and be nostalgic

04:21and be around all these people too.

04:22Like Jodie Sweetin and the cast of Full House will be there

04:26or Tia and Tamara Mowry or Mario Lopez

04:30and the cast of Saved by the Bell

04:31or Joey Lawrence and the Lawrence Brothers.

04:33So I get to kind of not only meet the fans at these

04:36and have people reminisce about 90's nostalgia,

04:38I get to kind of regroup with my cast

04:42and get reacquainted and then also reacquainted

04:44with all people I worked with

04:46or ran into at all these parties and stuff.

04:47The Backstreet Boys will be there sometimes.

04:51So we have some fun at these 90's Cons.

04:53We have really good time.

04:56Oh my goodness.

04:58Oh wow.

04:59I don't think I've ever seen this picture.

05:01So this is in Australia.

05:04Were we actually at the beach?

05:05We were in Sydney, Australia.

05:07I'm in my eagle dress.

05:09I wear this eagle dress.

05:10I bought this in Australia on this trip.

05:12I was shooting a movie in Melbourne

05:14and they came through and so I went up to Sydney

05:18to see them and I got to go on tour with them

05:20for like a day and be on the tour bus

05:21and I've never seen anything like it.

05:23We pulled into a square in Australia

05:25and every angle, when we pulled into the intersection,

05:28every angle of every avenue was jam packed with people.

05:31I don't even know how we pulled the bus in

05:33and people hanging out of the apartments above

05:35and off the balconies and stuff.

05:36It was like Beatlemania for the Backstreet Boys

05:39and it was, I think I stood on stage

05:42while they performed in front of me

05:43which was really weird to stand there and be like,

05:46I don't know what to do.

05:47I don't want to start dancing

05:48and I don't really know their music very well either.

05:51But that eagle dress I purchased in Australia

05:55and I still wear it every 4th of July.

05:57I have worn that pregnant.

05:58I have worn that when I'm at my thinnest.

06:01I have worn that when I am not

06:03at my happiest, comfortable body self.

06:07But that eagle dress lives

06:08and that eagle lands every 4th of July.

06:10And then me and Brittany.

06:12This is the premiere of Drive Me Crazy

06:14which was my movie, her song.

06:16And we did a ton of promotion and stuff together

06:18but this was at the premiere in New York.

06:21We'd already had the premiere, I think, in LA.

06:22We were doing the premiere in New York.

06:24This was actually a rough day in my life.

06:32But this is a day that just kind of like,

06:33this was me, you can tell I'm a little teary eyed

06:36at this picture.

06:37I'd been crying.

06:38This was the day that I kind of fell apart.

06:39But you can read about it in my book.

06:42It's all fine now.

06:42Just was a rough day.

06:44And then me and Soleil.

06:45So this is why you hire a stylist these days.

06:48And this is why celebrities now always hire stylists.

06:50Because I decided to put this cardigan sweater

06:52over some mom jeans and some weird purse thing

06:56and a choker necklace on.

06:59We didn't have a lot of stylists back then.

07:00So this is an obvious example of what can happen

07:06downfalls of not hiring a stylist.

07:09But I did like the dark hair on me.

07:11And Soleil, of course, has always had

07:12the long, gorgeous brown locks.

07:14And we're still best friends to this day.

07:17Even though we dress like this.
