In Christmas address, Pope urges silencing of weapons from the Holy Land to Ukraine

Pope Francis on Wednesday urged “all people of all nations” to find the courage “to silence the sounds of arms" and overcome divisions plaguing the world, from the Middle East to Ukraine, Africa to Asia.  In his “Urbi et Orbi” address, the pontiff called for arms to be silenced in war-torn Ukraine and in the Middle East.

00:00In the name of the Fatherland, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

00:31I address a thought to the Christian communities in Palestine and Israel,

00:37and in particular to the dear community of Gaza, where the humanitarian situation is very serious.

00:47Cease the fire, free the hostages, and help the extreme population from hunger and war.

00:56I am also close to the Christian community in Lebanon, especially in the south, and to that of Syria,

01:03in this delicate moment.

01:06The doors of dialogue and peace are opening up throughout the region, lacerated by the conflict.

01:15I would also like to remind the Libyan people here,

01:19encouraging them to seek solutions that will allow national reconciliation.
