00:00At the beginning of 2024, there was one thing on Royal Watchers' minds.

00:04What is going on with Princess Kate Middleton?

00:07To say that 2024 has been hard is an understatement for the Princess of Wales,

00:11but here we are looking back at her whirlwind of a year.

00:14Kensington Palace announced on January 17 that Kate was undergoing a planned

00:19abdominal surgery and would be taking a break from all public-facing events.

00:23At the time, details about Kate's health were kept under wraps.

00:28The silence, and a month without any appearances from Kate in the public eye,

00:33led to social media users and celebrities, including Kim Kardashian and

00:37Stephen Colbert, to joke about her disappearance.

00:40The Princess of Wales celebrated Mother's Day on March 10 with a photo that had been edited.

00:47Initially, multiple news outlets received a kill notification to remove an image

00:52that had been posted via the Prince and Princess of Wales' social media accounts.

00:56Kate eventually addressed the photo, admitting to editing the image and

01:00apologizing for the confusion her photograph caused.

01:03One month after Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles was battling cancer,

01:08Kate revealed in an emotional video that she had been diagnosed with cancer as well.

01:13In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time,

01:18it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous.

01:21The surgery was successful, however, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.

01:28My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy,

01:33and I'm now in the early stages of that treatment.

01:36To this day, she has not specified a type of illness.

01:40Kate made her first public appearance after announcing her cancer diagnosis on June 15,

01:45when attending Trooping the Colour.

01:48Nearly one month later, she made an appearance at Wimbledon on July 14.

01:52On September 9, Kate shared that she had completed chemotherapy,

01:56and revealed that she was on a long road to recovery.

02:00And in December, she hosted her annual Together at Christmas concert,

02:04where she addressed her health battle, telling singer Paloma Faith,

02:07I didn't know this year was going to be the year that I've just had, the unplanned,

02:12but I think lots of people this year have had such challenging times.

02:17And William offered a major update on his wife during an interview with UK's The Times,

02:22which was published on November 10.

02:24He said, I think hopefully Catherine will be doing a bit more next year,

02:28so we'll have some more trips maybe lined up.
