Talk about scoring that first goal, let's look at Leeds' away games. So Preston at the
00:09
weekend, Preston scored the first goal. Blackburn, obviously Blackburn scored the first and only
00:14
goal of that game. Swansea, they got the first goal. And again, it was an early one. Leeds
00:19
maybe not being ready. Again, I know that that game panned out quite all right in the
00:23
end, but still. Millwall, they got the first goal in the first half. Sunderland, again,
00:29
early goal. Chris Rigg, ninth minute, Sunderland opened the scoring. Norwich, 1-1, Sargent's
00:35
penalty on 15 minutes opened the scoring there. Looking at those results, especially the more
00:43
recent ones, it's like three and four and five in succession that Leeds have gone away
00:46
from home and conceded the first goal. They've given themselves a mountain to climb unnecessarily
00:52
each time. And you know what? You can look at it two ways. Again, that would be the glass
00:57
half empty view. The other way could be, well, they came from behind to win against
01:01
Swansea. Yes, very well. They ultimately got something at Preston, but when you concede
01:06
the first goal, there will be games like that Millwall match in the Blackburn game where
01:10
you don't get back into it.
01:12
What makes it so annoying and so incongruous is that they're so good at home. They're such
01:17
a good team at Elland Road. They don't tend to make sloppy mistakes at Elland Road. They
01:24
control teams just with an iron grip almost from the very start. They're not conceding
01:32
goals at Elland Road. So what's the big difference? Is it a mentality thing? Is it simply a tiredness
01:41
thing? Is it an energy thing because they're not at home because they've had to travel
01:45
because it's an early kickoff, too many games in too few days? It's the main area of concern
01:52
for this team because at Elland Road, there are no concerns about what will happen at
01:55
Elland Road this season. They will win a lot of games at Elland Road this season. That's
01:59
what's going to keep them right up there and make them automatic promotion contenders or
02:03
potentially favourites, whichever way you look at it. But away from home, it's a very
02:08
different Leeds.
