Southerly buster for Sydney; wet for eastern Queensland

A cooler change is due to bring relief to the east coast after days of swelting heat.

00:00Hello from the Bureau with your National Weather Forecast for tomorrow, so that's Tuesday

00:04the 17th of December.

00:06So we'll start off by taking a look at tomorrow's weather map.

00:10Here we have a cold front bringing relief to the really high temperatures to the southeast

00:15with showers and possible storms in a southerly buster pushing up the east coast of New South

00:19Wales, while this ridge of high pressure will build in quickly behind it, seeing a return

00:25of mild and settled weather.

00:28A continuation of showers and storms across the tropics, while for Queensland this low

00:33pressure system here sitting on the central coast bringing wet weather to the east of

00:38the state.

00:39And that's where we'll start, zooming in for Queensland, we've got these showers and possible

00:44storms across the east and the north, with showers becoming more widespread with areas

00:49of rain south of Mackay.

00:51There's also the potential for locally heavy falls with severe thunderstorms between Yippoon

00:56all the way down to Brisbane, whereas as we head out towards the west and the central

01:02interior, partly cloudy and generally dry conditions there.

01:06For Brisbane, showers with a risk of a storm potentially severe with locally heavy falls

01:12that may lead to flash flooding possible, a top of 28 degrees.

01:17Heading for New South Wales though, we've got a hot to very hot day across eastern and

01:21central parts, with isolated showers and storms pushing up with the change.

01:27Also about the northeast, showers and possible storms in that onshore flow and a southerly

01:32buster will push up that east coast, seeing a drop of daytime temperatures between 5 to

01:3715 degrees for the Illawarra, Sydney and Hunter during the afternoon and the evening.

01:43For Sydney, a mainly sunny morning with the risk of a shower or storm developing, a top

01:50of 32 degrees with coastal sea breezes keeping the temperatures down there, much hotter as

01:55we head into the western suburbs and up to the low 40s there.

01:59For Canberra, cloud increasing throughout the day with the risk of a shower or storm

02:03and a top of 35 degrees.

02:06For Victoria, tomorrow is going to be much cooler with showers and possible storms eventually

02:12contracting eastwards with just some remnant light showers on and south of the ranges in

02:17a southwesterly flow.

02:19It will be a wet morning for Melbourne with showers and even a possible thunderstorm that

02:23will mostly clear by the afternoon, a top of 24 degrees there.

02:29Down in Tasmania, showers that will be most frequent during the morning and then contracting

02:35to the west and the south.

02:37Daytime temperatures between 2 to 6 degrees below the December average for Hobart, showers

02:42most likely during the early hours of the morning at a top of 21 degrees.

02:47For South Australia, showers and a possible storm in the far east during the morning but

02:52then generally a dry and sunny day with daytime temperatures near or just below average.

02:57For Adelaide, a sunny day and a top of 26 degrees.

03:02Out west, we have some showers and storms about the north and the interior, windy through

03:07central and southern parts with the winds turning easterly, which is going to build

03:12the heat throughout the far west there.

03:14For Perth, a sunny day and a top of 35 degrees.

03:19Moving to the tropical north, we've got the humid conditions with showers and possible

03:23storms and there is a risk of severe thunderstorms, bringing heavy rainfall to the western top

03:29end and also northern parts of WA.

03:32For Darwin, we're forecasting a shower and possible storm at a top of 35 degrees, but

03:37noting for Tennant Creek, a minimum of 29 degrees followed by 43 the maximum, with extreme

03:44heatwave conditions developing.
