00:19The company, majority owned by Malaysian conglomerate DRB HiCom with a 49.9% stake held by China's

00:25Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, joins a growing EV market that has recently seen entries

00:30by BYD, Tesla and Stellantis through its partnership with LEAP Motor.

00:35Malaysia aims to have EVs and hybrids make up 20% of new car sales by 2030, with battery

00:41EV sales already rising by 112% in the first half of the year.

00:46Prime Minister Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim, who launched the EMA7, expressed hopes for future

00:51local manufacturing of the vehicle and greater involvement of Malaysian firms in EV production.

00:57The launch of Proton's first SUV EV today is extremely timely and it will be a catalyst

01:05that moves us into the next era of low carbon mobility.

01:10It is the government's wish for Proton and its strategic partner Geely to continue to

01:16lead the development of Malaysia's automotive competencies and the ecosystem.

01:22I am confident that with the development of Automotive Hitech Valley in Tanjung Malim,

01:28more local vendors will be involved with the production not only of Proton cars, but also

01:35for other brands.

01:37The EMA7 will be available in basic and premium models priced at RM109,800 and RM123,800 respectively.
