00:00Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has insisted that the Royal Commission of Inquiry on the
00:06handling of the Batu Putih, Middle Rocks and South Ledge issue was not intended to target
00:11Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
00:13Anwar said the special task force set up to review the laws concerning the issue, which
00:17ultimately led to the establishment of the RCI, was formed during former Prime Minister
00:22Ismail Sabri Yacoub's administration.
00:25The RCI's report on its findings was released on the Parliament website last Thursday, although
00:30many of its recommendations were redacted.
00:34Among the unredacted recommendations was that the RCI Secretary file a police report against
00:39the former Prime Minister to make way for a criminal investigation under sections 415
00:45and 418 of the Penal Code for cheating.
00:49The RCI said Mahathir had written to the Solicitor General on May 21st, 2018, stating that, to
00:54his view, the ICJ applications need not be continued.
00:59The RCI also revealed that Singapore was informed of Mahathir's decision at 9 a.m. on May 23rd,
01:052018, 30 minutes before the Cabinet met at 9.30 a.m.
01:09However, Mahathir denied he acted unilaterally in making the decision.
