2024 World Pie Eating Championship winner crowned

Wigan's Harry's Bar once again hosted the World Pie Eating Championships where a pie-off was needed to determine this years winner.

00:00How does it feel to win the pie-eating championship?

00:02Wonderful. I'm really impressed. I've been meaning to do it for a couple of years,

00:05so I'm really glad that I got to come and do it now.

00:08And so, did you do any preparations for it?

00:12Well, not really. I'm just a generally fast eater,

00:14but I have practised with a Holland's pie that I could do in 12 seconds,

00:16so when I saw the record was around 30, I thought I can do two pies in that.

00:21So I did that one in about 15, I think, so there we go.

00:24I think I can do two pies in the old record time.

00:27And you're not from Wigan, are you? You're from Alstow?

00:29Yeah, I'm from Bury, but my uncle lives just in Douglas House over there,

00:33so I'm here all the time, so that's how I know about the competition.

00:36Honorary Wiganer, then, you would say?

00:38Yeah, yeah.

00:39And so, how are you going to celebrate today?

00:41Well, I'm going to my son's nativity later,

00:43and I'm going to tell him his dad's the world champ, and then have a few drinks.

00:46What did you think of the pies? Because they weren't Wigan pies.

00:49They were very tasty, but I was surprised by the chips.

00:52The chips were quite long in them, and to swallow one without biting,

00:58which is the technique I've got, was a little difficult,

01:02because we didn't know they were in there, did we?

01:03We knew they were eating potato, but they were sort of big fat chips.

01:06But they were still very tasty, very tasty.
