Forth Ports is making a fresh £50 million investment in Leith after securing a “game-changing” offshore wind contract.  Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes was at today's announcement.  The UK’s third-largest port operator said the bumper private investment in infrastructure at the Port of Leith would support the delivery of the 1.1-gigawatt (GW) Inch Cape wind farm, which once completed in 2027 is expected to generate enough energy to power half of Scotland’s homes.  The move will enhance the port’s marine access, infrastructure and support vessels and includes plant and equipment that will be used to deliver the vast offshore wind project. It will also create up to 50 new and “upskilled” green energy jobs.

00:06for Leith and the surrounding area, but indeed for Scotland. We know that there is huge potential

00:11when it comes to our renewable energy, but if we don't see the investment in infrastructure,

00:17it just remains a target. So the fact that £50 million is being invested, creating up

00:22to 50 highly skilled jobs as part of our efforts to meet net zero shows that it's actually

00:29happening and it should give us great encouragement. Well, what I've been delighted to see is the

00:35amount of collaboration at Forth Ports, between the port itself, who are interested in developing

00:41their infrastructure, but also with developers and investors. We need everybody to be working

00:47collaboratively at this point, particularly to unlock the potential. We know the potential

00:53is out there, but we need to see those different groups working together to make the projects happen.
