Hanna accuses Britain of double standard over Gaza after Israeli strike on refugee zone bereaves neighbours and constituents

00:00Mr. Speaker, last week my neighbours Omar and Dalal Shashkaki, who serve South Belfast

00:06as a doctor and a classroom assistant, received the news that they have been dreading.

00:10Dalal's mother and brother were among 23 Gazans killed in their tent by an Israeli

00:16airstrike in the so-called humanitarian zone of Al-Mawassi, and other family members are

00:21fighting for their lives in a barely functioning health system.

00:24Prime Minister, the crisis in Gaza is getting worse and not better.

00:28None of us in this chamber can end their nightmare, but we can do more.

00:33This government have rightly used every tool at their disposal – sanctions on arms and

00:38trade and officials against Putin's Russia.

00:41When will Israel be held to the same standards for genocide?

00:45When will this government confirm further sanctions, recognise the state of Palestine

00:50and offer some hope to beleaguered Gazans and many millions who are watching on in horror?

00:55Can I start by saying I'm sorry to hear of the dreadful loss of the families of her

01:02constituents.

01:03There have been far too many examples like that.

01:07I was pleased to see that there's now a ceasefire in Lebanon.

01:10We desperately need that now in Gaza, something we've been pressing for for some time.

01:15There's intense talks going on to that end at the moment, as she knows.

01:20That would provide the space for the hostages to be allowed out.

01:24They've been there for a very, very long time.

01:27Desperately needed aid to go in at speed and at scale, but also opens the potential for

01:33the pathway to the two-state solution, which I believe is the only peaceful way to resolve

01:38this ongoing conflict.
