01:04So Sam I think
01:10Good boy
01:12We got the video to prove it.
01:32Yeah, Picasso is an incredible story.
02:00She was rescued back in 2016.
02:02She was the very first rescued farm animal that came to the sanctuary.
02:06And honestly, I just wanted to keep her entertained.
02:08We put soccer balls and different toys in her stall, and there was also a paintbrush
02:13because I do some painting myself.
02:16And she literally ate and destroyed everything except this paintbrush.
02:19And I automatically thought, wow, maybe there's something in this.
02:23And really, just a little bit of creative ideas and a lot of time with her.
02:30It wasn't long before she was picking up this brush, walking towards the canvas and
02:33actually painting across it.
02:35We were shearing the sheep, and the gentleman who was doing it, the hair got stuck in the
02:40blades and he needed a brush or something to clean it.
02:43And my farm manager went and got one of Picasso's brushes, got the hair out of the blade, and
02:48it dropped on the floor.
02:49And at this moment, the sheep that he was shearing walked up to this brush, picked it
02:53up and tried to paint against the stall door.
02:55He was put in the back of the barn because he was very vulnerable.
02:58And he used to watch Picasso paint.
03:00I mean, I have footage of this.
03:02And so he learned how to pick up a brush and to paint by watching Picasso.
03:07Farm Sanctuary SA is a non-profit organization here in Franschhoek, South Africa.
03:12We rescue farm animals that are destined to be slaughtered for food, and we bring them
03:18here to the sanctuary where they can live out their life surrounded by empathy and compassion.
03:23It's also a place where people can come and visit.
03:26They can come face-to-face.
03:29And I care deeply what's happening to these animals behind closed doors on factory farms.
03:33And I really believe that if people—we generally love animals—if people could see what is
03:38happening to them, they would make kinder choices.
03:41So this has been an incredibly positive and creative project whereby using the wonderful
03:47medium of paint and art, we can really attract a wide audience and hopefully inspire them
03:53to see things differently.
03:56And I think that's really important.
03:57I think that's really important.
03:58I think that's really important.
