00:09Months later, his wife went missing.

00:16On 28th July 2024, Mamta Bhatt, a nurse living in Virginia with her husband Naresh

00:21and their child, was active on TikTok and this video was the last one she posted on the platform.

00:27Mamta was last seen on 29th July.

00:29Her husband said he last saw his wife on 31st July after she had cooked dinner.

00:33The next day, he assumed she went to work as usual.

00:36Between 1st August and 2nd August, Mamta didn't show up for work,

00:40so her manager called the police to conduct a welfare check at her house.

00:44But when the police reached the house, Naresh said,

00:47She left and then she said she gonna go either New York or Texas and then

00:51she left like she had the phone and then she destroyed that phone and then she left.

00:55She said she was going to New York.

00:57Yeah, her sister.

00:58But prosecutors alleged that Mamta had no biological family in the US.

01:23According to Mamta's friends,

01:24she had left the house twice before due to disagreements with Naresh.

01:28It's not like first time she disappeared and then came back.

01:31I live with my parents over there. She said like, okay, I'm not gonna live with your parents.

01:36On 5th August 2024, Naresh filed a missing complaint about Mamta.

01:40On 22nd August, he was taken into police custody as he had already been considered

01:45a person of interest in the case after his answers during the routine check raised suspicions.

01:50Prosecutors described the house to be dishevelled and chaotic.

01:54They said a suitcase was packed and Naresh's passport was handy.

01:58Investigators said they found blood in the bedroom and bathroom.

02:01They added that they got evidence when Naresh was seen at a local Walmart

02:05purchasing three knives with two unaccounted for.

02:08From the next day onwards, he was seen buying cleaning supplies, said the prosecutors.

02:13They believed that just after Mamta's disappearance,

02:15he discarded a blood-stained bath mat and bags into a trash crusher.

02:20Blood found at the couple's home matched Mamta's DNA and the investigators suspected

02:25that she had been killed, dragged into the bathroom and dismembered.

02:29They said that she was killed on 29th July, the day she was last seen.

02:33Naresh had been indicted on charges of murder and defiling a dead body.

02:37While Naresh's lawyer alleged that Mamta was still alive,

02:40the police believed he was involved in a murder based on the evidence they had uncovered.

02:44Prosecutors were continuously building a strong case against Naresh.

02:51at the time of publishing this report. But Mamta's body was still missing.
