00:00Agriculture Secretary Francisco Chu Laurel Jr. has called for an end to the rice wastage in the country.
00:09According to the data from the Philippine Rice Research Institute,
00:13the rice wastage in the household since 2009 was 340,000 metric tons.
00:19It dropped to 255,000 metric tons in 2019.
00:23It can be considered an improvement, but according to Secretary Laurel,
00:27rice wastage should still be addressed.
00:31Especially rice wastage every year is enough to feed or feed millions of families.
00:38One solution they are thinking of is to return to the so-called half-cup rice
00:43so that it can be digested by those who are more responsible in using or eating rice.
00:47According to the DA, this was first introduced by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in 2013.
00:53Secretary Laurel added that the so-called half-cup rice is not only about food security,
00:59but also about sustainability and public health.
01:02PhilRice supports this call by the Agriculture Department.
