A fourth consecutive night of protests across Georgia against the government's decision
00:06
to suspend European Union accession talks.
00:10
Russia says it's captured two towns in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine as it continues
00:16
to capture more territory.
00:25
Romania's future parliament and government will continue the country's strong pro-EU,
00:29
pro-NATO and pro-Ukraine national strategy.
00:33
The leftist Social Democratic Party has won almost 23 percent of the vote and have an
00:38
almost 5 percent advantage over their closest contenders.
00:43
And while they've topped the polls for a second consecutive election, far-right populists
00:47
have made considerable gains.
00:50
The Alliance for the Unity of Romanians won the second most votes, sitting at just over
00:55
18 percent.
00:57
But the scores of the pro-EU camp show that the future parliamentary majority and government
01:03
will continue Romania's pro-West course as NATO's eastern flank main country.
01:10
But the rise of the ultra-nationalist parties is a sobering reality for Romania's political
01:17
scene.
01:18
The strong turnout in voting is the result of the shock result of the first round of
01:23
the presidential election.
01:25
Monday morning we will find out the official results.
01:30
Vitalie Cogiocari, Euronews Romania.
01:36
A fourth consecutive night of protests is underway across Georgia against the government's
01:41
decision to suspend European Union accession talks.
01:45
Officials say at least 44 people have been hospitalized in increasingly violent clashes
01:50
between police and protesters.
01:53
Prime Minister Irakli Kobahidze has warned that everyone in the country has to obey the
01:57
law.
01:58
I would like to thank everyone for their support and for their support of the law.
02:02
I would like to say that the law is the foundation of all democracy.
02:09
The unrest began four days ago when the government, headed by the populist Georgian Dream Party,
02:24
announced it was suspending EU accession talks until at least 2028.
02:29
That was in response to a European Parliament resolution which criticized the 26th of October
02:34
parliamentary elections which saw the Georgian Dream re-elected as neither free nor fair.
02:39
The EU granted Georgia candidate status in December 2023 but put that process on hold
02:45
earlier this year after the passage of a controversial foreign influence law, widely seen as a blow
02:51
to democratic freedoms.
02:53
Meanwhile Kobahidze has said President Salome Zubishvili must vacate her post when her mandate
02:59
ends later this month.
03:00
The pro-EU head of state has vowed to stay on to support the protesters and says the
03:05
illegitimate government has no authority to select her successor.
03:09
The elections that led to this parliament and then to the government are not legitimate,
03:18
they are not recognized by anyone, they have not been recognized by the Georgian population
03:24
in the first place, they have not been recognized by the political forces in the country.
03:30
Zubishvili also said Russia had carried out what she called an electoral war on Georgia
03:35
and had done the same in recent elections in Romania and Moldova.
03:43
Russia says it's captured two towns in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, just as
03:48
President Vladimir Putin approved plans to raise military spending to its highest level
03:53
yet, a third of the national budget.
03:56
According to the Ministry of Defence, its servicemen also hit the infrastructure of
03:59
Ukrainian airfields, drone assembly shops and warehouses.
04:05
Ukraine's air force confirmed the attacks, saying Russia launched 78 drones overnight
04:09
from the cities of Kursk, Orel and Bryansk.
04:12
The air force also said it jammed about 32 of the drones, whilst regional authorities
04:17
said at least 11 civilians were killed from the Russian strikes.
04:21
Meanwhile, authorities in the Kherson region say three people were killed in a Russian
04:26
strike there.
04:27
It's one of four regions that Moscow illegally annexed in September 2022, but hasn't been
04:33
able to completely re-occupy.
04:35
A Ukrainian counter-offensive recaptured western areas of the Kherson region, including the
04:41
regional capital, also called Kherson, nine months later.
