00:10She served in the Senate from 1987 to 1992 and 1992 to 1995.
00:17Rasul authored eight significant laws during her Senate tenure,
00:21including those promoting gender equality, civil service eligibility and women's rights,
00:26such as the establishment of National Women's Day
00:29and the inclusion of women in the Philippine Military Academy.
00:33Before her legislative career, Rasul worked as a public school teacher in Sulu
00:38and later served as a technical assistant to the office of the president from 1963 to 1964.
00:45She was also a commissioner for Muslim and ethnic minorities
00:48and a member of the Ministry of Education's board.
00:52Rasul was appointed UNESCO's honorary ambassador during the International Literacy Year in 1990.
00:58She was married to the late Ambassador Abraham Rasul Sr. and together they had six children.
