Jermaine Burton Must Step UP for Cincinnati Bengals

00:00And number one is a guy that we've talked a lot about, that has been in the news a lot.

00:07And unfortunately, it's not for catching the football.

00:09It's Jermaine Burton, who just seems to be out there.

00:13He's gotten opportunities over the past few weeks and is getting a lot of good cardio

00:19in, but hasn't made the plays that you're expecting him to make.

00:23And what I want to see from Jermaine Burton over the next six weeks, regardless of how

00:28the Bengals do record-wise, is give me a glimpse.

00:31Give me something to go into this offseason with that says, oh, well, Jermaine Burton

00:38can be a piece for the future.

00:41Because right now, we know he has talent.

00:42We know he has good hands.

00:43We know, at times, he has the right instincts downfield to make plays.

00:48But over the past few weeks, even that has looked shaky.

00:51Even that, half the time or more than that, looks like he doesn't know where he's running

00:55or what route he's doing, or he doesn't look confident.

00:59It's why Joe Burrow is 4 of 14 when targeting Jermaine Burton.

01:02It's just not good.

01:04This is a quarterback that completes, most weeks, 70 percent of his passes.

01:07He's completing 67 percent of his passes this year.

01:11He's playing as well as any quarterback in the NFL.

01:13And Jermaine Burton hasn't been on the same page as Joe Burrow.

01:16Who am I blaming?

01:18The rookie?

01:19Or am I blaming the MVP-level quarterback?

01:22It's pretty clear who you blame.

01:24And so, what I need to see from Jermaine Burton is pretty simple.

01:27Think Alec Pierce in Indianapolis.

01:30Just show you can be a deep threat.

01:31I get it.

01:32Jamar Chase is out there, and he's possibly on his way to a triple crown.

01:37Tee Higgins is back, and he's going to be a big part of this offense.

01:40Well, Andre Josivash isn't known for his ability to be a deep threat.

01:44Trenton Irwin, Charlie Jones, who knows?

01:46Maybe Isaiah Williams gets some reps down the stretch.

01:48None of those guys are going to be deep threats.

01:50The guy they need to be a deep threat is none other than Jermaine Burton.

01:56That's why I mentioned Alec Pierce.

01:57That's what Alec Pierce does for the Indianapolis Colts.
