00:00The Reciprocal Access Agreement between the Philippines and Japan is being worked on.

00:06It has been endorsed in the Senate Plenary.

00:08Yesterday, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. laid down his assistance to the country.

00:15Daniel Malalastas is in the center of the news.

00:20The Reciprocal Access Agreement between the Philippines and Japan was discussed in the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.

00:27It aims to strengthen the defense cooperation between the two countries.

00:30In meeting with Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. in the committee,

00:34he insisted that the agreement be considered as a part of the strategic partnership in Japan.

00:52There are a few things about the RAA that Secretary Teodoro clarified.

00:56There are also a few benefits of this agreement.

01:14Some senators are already asking for support from the RAA.

01:17For now, in principle, the RAA will be endorsed in the Senate Plenary.

01:27I would have wanted in hindsight to have items such as support for fisheries technology.

01:38Given the shared interest of the Philippines and Japan to global and regional peace and stability,

01:43it is submitted to this committee that the benefits of the RAA for the Filipino people

01:48are the opening of new opportunities to bolster national security from both traditional and nontraditional aspects.
