Oh, I'm so bored. I have to find a new answer now.
00:02
Bismillah, Bismillah, Bulbul-e-Bismillah
00:04
Would you like to recite something for us?
00:06
No.
00:07
I don't know.
00:12
Stories which are more rooted and not, like, not randomly inspired by some, you know, by some successful formula.
00:26
Hi, this is Kausal Muneer.
00:28
This is Varun Grover.
00:29
This is Vishal Gharbhaj.
00:31
What are some tangible changes that the industry should make to empower writers?
00:36
Make more diverse writers.
00:38
Choose more diverse stories.
00:40
Choose stories from places or identities we have not seen much of on screen.
00:47
Choose stories which are more rooted and not, like, not randomly inspired by some, you know, by some successful formula
00:56
or franchisees from around the world.
00:58
Like, we have our own stories.
01:00
We have so many languages.
01:01
We have so many stories of our culture.
01:05
Give more power to art house.
01:07
More power to diverse stories.
01:08
More power to stories of people from oppressed communities.
01:13
And that will be a real change.
01:19
I know, sir, this question has been asked to you maybe millions of times.
01:22
But I'm asking again.
01:24
Yes.
01:26
Tell us about your fascination and interest with Shakespeare.
01:30
Like, why?
01:31
Oh, I'm so bored.
01:32
I have to find a new answer now.
01:34
But, yeah, of course, I think he was a great writer.
01:38
And he was out of copyright.
01:40
There was no publisher to represent him.
01:42
So it was available for everyone.
01:45
And I think I was the smart one to choose him.
01:47
What are your thoughts on word to screen?
01:50
And why it could be a platform for writers?
01:53
Yeah, it's an army word to screen.
01:55
And, you know, words are needed for the story.
02:00
And the stories are needed to make films.
02:02
And I'm a huge fan of adaptation.
02:05
And, you know, the books and the materials.
02:11
Somehow, after the writers have written,
02:14
it's the publishers that take over.
02:16
And I think it's important as a writer,
02:19
I say this as a writer,
02:21
to help them present their work.
02:23
And for them to be able to sort of, you know,
02:26
present their possibilities and the intention behind whatever their story was.
02:31
So, yes, it's, you know, kind of a far removed process.
02:34
The writers are usually very separate from where the action is.
02:39
There is a whole bunch of writers that are literally,
02:42
that have never interacted with the screen,
02:45
you know, screen world of writing.
02:47
So, for them, it will be a very cool opportunity
02:51
to actually get access to the industry.
02:54
And for industry also, it's a great thing that, you know,
02:57
word to screen is recommending books,
02:59
recommending great titles, great stories, which they can adapt.
03:02
So, I think it's a great platform,
03:04
because it opens up the opportunity for the filmmaker
03:08
because it opens up the opportunity for the filmmaker
03:11
to choose from various pitches made by the writers and the publishers.
03:18
Everyone loves you because of your poetry.
03:20
Can you tell us, like, what's the process like?
03:23
You're doing this on the fly, so I can see your...
03:27
I don't know whether I wrote it in 4 days or 40 years,
03:30
because it's kind of an amalgamation of all your experiences,
03:33
and it's kind of, you distill your feelings, your experiences, your observations.
03:37
Not that I do it too much, but if I do my own poetry,
03:40
I tend to go with sort of an open-verse feeling of
03:44
whatever is perhaps happening around me in the world,
03:48
and in the country, in my life.
03:52
Would you like to recite something for us?
03:54
No, because I am one of the worst people
03:58
when it comes to remembering my own stuff.
