00:00I've done my fair share of, like, metaverse concerts.
00:03Live music is incredible.
00:04I don't think the goal was ever to replace that experience.
00:23We've always treated music as a static thing,
00:25but, you know, I love the idea of music being fluid
00:28and changing with technology and over time.
00:31During COVID, live performances, it was, like, the first thing to go.
00:35Small spaces, very close proximity to other people, non-essential,
00:41which also happened to be the main way that artists make a living.
00:44So it was, like, kind of problematic for the music industry.
00:55I felt like Web3 was kind of a little bit of a restart.
00:58A lot of people make music, and there's an industry in between that connects them.
01:02But that industry has been taking, you know, anywhere from 50% to 80% of all profit.
01:07It was a system that, you know, basically paid, like, a very meager salary.
01:13And, you know, the record companies essentially took most of the profit.
01:16What I think Web3 really solves is that it cuts out that system entirely.
01:28Something kind of amazing happened,
01:50which is that I released this NFT that broke a record on one of these platforms called SuperRare.
01:55I think it was, like, 26 grand or something like that, which was obviously incredible.
01:59I was like, oh my God, like, a piece of music making that much money so quickly, you know, that's amazing.
02:04You know, not even foreseeing what was to come.
02:07Music has value.
02:08This was, like, sort of a market dictating, speaking very loud and clear.
02:12It's like, no, this has more value than what we're attributing it to.
02:15So, you know, a song that had zero plays on Spotify was worth 26 grand.
02:26It's not really a currency, but it's just this token of ownership in this community.
02:50A lot of it is social signaling.
02:51A lot of it is people love to collect things.
02:54It's, you know, Wire watches, $50,000, Wire Birkin bags, $30,000.
03:00It's not the cost to produce that thing, but things are worth the price that people are willing to pay for it.
03:05When people wear that on themselves, you know, it's a social signaling thing.
03:08You know, this is what I like.
03:09This is part of my identity.
03:25Web3, I think, has really opened that door to connect in a deeper way.
03:29Unlocking the relationship between the artist and the fan, or like a direct connection.
03:34And engaging with your superfans.
03:36I mean, that's the ultimate goal.
