00:10And I'm here whenever you're ready to talk.

00:24Why didn't you apologize to Chris in your acceptance speech?

00:30Um, I was fogged out by that point.

00:36It's, it's, it's, it's all fuzzy.

00:39I've reached out to Chris.

00:42Um, and the mesh, the message that came back is that, uh, he's not ready to

00:47talk and when he is, he will reach out.

00:52I spent the last three months, um, replaying and understanding the nuances

01:02and, and the complexities of what happened in, in that moment.

01:08Um, and I'm not gonna try to unpack all of that right now, but I can say to all

01:16of you, there is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave.

01:25In that moment.

01:27There's no part of me that thinks that's the optimal way to handle a

01:35feeling of disrespect or, or insults.

01:41After Jada rolled her eyes, did she tell you to do something?

01:45No.

01:46Um, it's like, you know, I'm, I made a choice on my own, from my own

01:54experiences, from my history with Chris Jada had nothing to do with it.

02:03Um, I'm gonna say sorry to my, my kids and my family for the

02:11heat that I brought on all of us.

02:14Um, to all my fellow nominees, you know, this is a community, it's like I

02:20won because you, you voted for me.

02:22And it, it, it really breaks my heart to have stolen and, and

02:27tarnished, tarnished your moment.

02:31Um, I can still see Questlove's eyes, you know, it, it happened on Questlove's

02:40award and, you know, it's like, I'm, I'm, I'm sorry, really isn't sufficient.

02:53What would you say to the people who looked up to you before the slap or

02:58people who expressed that you let them down?

03:02Um, so there's two things.

03:06One, um, disappointing people is my central trauma.

03:13Um, I hate when I let people down.

03:18Um, so it, it hurts.

03:23Uh, it hurts me psychologically and emotionally to know I didn't live up

03:28to, uh, people's image and impression of me.

03:35And the work I'm trying to do is I am deeply remorseful and I'm trying to be

03:47remorseful without being ashamed of myself, right?

03:51I'm a human and I made a mistake and I'm trying not to think of myself as a piece

04:04of shit.

04:05Um, so I would say to those people, I know it was confusing.

04:11I know it was shocking.

04:14Um, but I, I promise you, I am deeply devoted and committed to putting light

04:24and love and joy into the world.

04:28And, you know, if you, if you hang on, I promise we'll be able to be friends

04:35again.
