00:05while I was shaking hands and meeting people.

00:07That's a part of the job.

00:09That's a part of the role. That's what's expected.

00:30Never underestimate what your actions, your choices and your experience may start.

01:00My mother, Princess Diana, was a role model to so many

01:08without realizing the impact she would have on so many lives.

01:13You don't have to be a princess or a public figure to be a role model.

01:30I came here when I was 97, 98, straight after my mum died.

01:42So it was a nice place to get away from it all.

01:45But now I feel deeply connected to this place and to Africa.

02:00It's a way that both me and Princess can relate to our mothers

02:15who are both in sort of the same jobs, working with orphaned children.

02:19And this particular charity, rather than aiming directly at AIDS itself,

02:24is the knock-off effect with the children, so we can actually help the kids.

02:29Do you think she'd be proud of what you're doing here?

02:31I hope so.

02:53I'm in no doubt that my two deployments to Afghanistan changed the direction of my life.

02:57There is very little that can truly prepare you for the reality of war.

03:01The experiences can be stark and long-lasting.

03:28The Invictus Games seeks to change perceptions of physical and mental injury.

03:34One thing we have to talk about more is breaking down these barriers

03:38around so-called invisible injuries, like post-traumatic stress,

03:42just as we have for physical injuries like the loss of a limb.

04:13None of us can get through mental health difficulties

04:16without being willing to have a conversation

04:19and being able to admit that we might need some help.

04:24Liam, Catherine and I started this campaign because we saw that

04:27fear of judgement, stigma and outdated prejudice

04:31meant that too many people stayed quiet about their mental health challenges.

04:35I tried to warn you as much as possible, but I think both of us were totally surprised

04:56by the reaction after the first five, six months when we had to ourselves

05:00of what actually happened from then.

05:05Now we're thrilled, both of them.

05:07I hope they'll be very happy indeed, is all I can say.

05:35I know I haven't always got it right, but as far as this goes,

05:43there really was no other option.

05:45Our hope was to continue serving the Queen, the Commonwealth

05:49and my military associations, but without public funding.

05:53Unfortunately, that wasn't possible.

06:05I hope that helps you understand what it had come to,

06:19that I would step my family back from all I have ever known

06:24to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life.
