Approximately 100 million people across the United States are sweltering under heat advisories, as record-breaking temperatures continue to rise.

00:00Extreme heat continues to batter regions across the United States with approximately 100 million people under heat advisories.
00:07People in Phoenix, Arizona experienced temperatures that climbed to 114 degrees on Monday, July 17, making it the 18th straight day the city has seen temperatures over 110 degrees.
00:19And according to current forecasts, records could continue to get broken in coming weeks.
00:24About 500 miles west in Death Valley, California, temperatures officially reached 128 degrees on Sunday, July 16.
00:32The intense heat is increasingly harmful for the elderly, infants, and those with chronic health conditions.
00:38Just last year, 425 people died around the Phoenix area from heat-related illness.
00:44And according to the CDC, there are an average of 702 heat-related deaths in the country per year.
00:50Scientists and climate experts have long indicated that as the planet continues to heat up, heat waves will become more frequent and more deadly.
