Protests across China have intensified as more residents retaliate against the country’s zero-COVID policy.

00:04The policy, which began nearly three years ago at the beginning of the pandemic,

00:09has forced people into strict months-long lockdowns and has led to mass testing and

00:15digital tracking. Some residents have even tried to break out of these lockdowns

00:19by retaliating against police officers, seen here wearing hazmat suits.

00:24Another group of protesters in Shanghai chanted for the Chinese Communist Party

00:29and its president, who initiated the policy, to step down.

00:36A heavy police presence has been seen in some parts of the country,

00:40and there have reportedly been multiple arrests. The protests picked up last week after 10 people

00:45died in a residential high-rise building that caught on fire. Many have blamed lockdown

00:50restrictions for the deaths, but local authorities deny those claims.
