Lions escape during overnight zoo event

Five zoo lions escaped during an overnight event … There were no reported injuries to people or animals.

00:00Five lions escaped from their enclosure during a Sydney Zoo's overnight event.

00:04It just happened so quickly. We were a bit surprised.

00:09Is this part of the action package?

00:12They came running down the tent area saying,

00:15there's a code one. Get out of your tent. Leave your belongings behind.

00:19Run. Come with us. They opened the door. Everyone got in.

00:22They counted us and they locked the door and we were staying inside the building.

00:26Five lions, one adult and four clubs were located outside of their main enclosure at 6.30am.

00:34Four of the lions calmly made their way back into their main exhibit and dens

00:40and one lion cub was safely tranquilised.

00:44All animals are now safe in their back of house exhibit and are being closely monitored.
