00:00In Para Sports, after eight editions of Philippine National Paragames,
00:04Philippine Paralympic Committee and Philspada President Mike Barredo
00:09targets the bi-annual national tournament for differently abled athletes.
00:15Here is the story of teammate Darryl Oclares.
00:20The return of the Philippine National Paragames was a success
00:24which lasted for five years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
00:29Approximately 1,000 athletes from 72 local government units
00:34participated in the Para Sports.
00:37According to Philippine Paralympic Committee and Philspada President Mike Barredo,
00:43they plan to increase the bi-annual national tournament for differently abled athletes.
00:50Nine sports, maybe next time we'll have 13, 14 or 15 to include more team sports.
00:56And probably hit about 1,500 participants, at least participating.
01:01So, I'm very happy that we weathered the storm, so to speak, literally.
01:06At the same time, we found potential athletes
01:09that will probably be part of the national training pool
01:13and represent us in international competitions.
01:17Barredo also hopes that the Philippine National Paragames will be legalized.
01:24I hope that President Marcos Jr. will continue to sign the law
01:31that will institutionalize the conduct of the national games
01:34to include the national Paragames.
