00:00In powerlifting, the 2024 Powerlifting Championships will start on the upcoming weekend in General Santos City.

00:08For details, here is the peak report of Paolo Salamatina.

00:15More than 70 powerlifters will gather from 16 teams in Mindanao Leg

00:21of the 2024 Powerlifting Championships organized by the Powerlifting Association of the Philippines

00:26that will be held from November 23 to 24 in General Santos City.

00:30The event is said to be held annually,

00:33and is being held in the Philippines from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao

00:37to discover potential athletes who could be a part of the National Team one day.

00:44In the PTV Sports interview, Powerlifting Association of the Philippines former president Eddie Torres said

00:49how big is the powerlifting community in the country.

00:54I would say the situation now, the NSA, the PAP, has a happy problem.

01:02Because the problem before, a long time ago, there were only a few people joining.

01:08And then when we started competition in Mindanao, there were only a few.

01:13Now, it seems like it's increasing.

01:16So we have to make adjustments to accommodate them.

01:20Additional days, additional competition platforms that are simultaneous.

01:25Because as much as possible, we want to accommodate everyone who wants to join.

01:31So yes, it's more work, but I feel happier here.

01:39And because powerlifting is all about dedication and discipline,

01:43Torres assured that the competition will be more interesting

01:47because of the improvements that will be given to the athletes who will compete here.

01:51I think the potential is there.

01:53Those who competed last year, I was surprised by the strength of others.

01:58I'm hoping that they can have bigger numbers this year.

02:03So I can't say in certainty what the results will be,

02:09but I'm sure that they will improve a lot.

02:15The Powerlifting Association of the Philippines is anticipating their Mindanao League event

02:19where many participants will show their skills this weekend

02:22that they can show to the national team

02:25to show their talent for the chance to make their own name

02:30and bring glory to the country.
