00:00Let's get to know the first Filipino powerlifter to lift 9 times his own bodyweight.

00:07And the other powerlifter to compete in the 2024 Powerlifting World Open Championships in Iceland.

00:15For the details, here is the report of teammate Paolo Salamatin.

00:21Filipino powerlifters Reggie Ramirez and Veronica Umpud showed off their skills

00:27after winning gold and silver medals in the men's 59kg and women's 47kg deadlift event

00:34of the 2024 International Powerlifting Federation World Open Equipped Championships in Iceland.

00:39Aside from Ramirez's gold medal and Umpud's silver medal finish,

00:43it would be a big highlight for both of them to qualify for the World Games next year.

00:51But unfortunately, they lacked the necessary points to compete in the World Games.

00:58At the end of his junior years, he was the first to step on the world stage,

01:04the two-time Junior World Champion Umpud,

01:07where he admitted that it won't be easy for him to compete.

01:12It was really hard for me because I didn't know if I could win a medal or not.

01:19Because we expected that the fight would be close.

01:24Umpud's handler and former president of the Powerlifting Association of the Philippines, Eddie Torres,

01:32was able to achieve the same achievement as Umpud,

01:35where Umpud only lifted 100 times heavier than his weight.

01:41Veronica's bodyweight is 45kg, 45.45kg to be exact,

01:48which is actually almost exactly 100 pounds.

01:51She's just light.

01:53But at 45kg, she lifted 160kg in the squat.

02:00And in the deadlift, 165kg.

02:03So she got three and a half times bodyweight for each event.

02:08And then in the bench press, she got double bodyweight.

02:12So it comes out to around more than nine times bodyweight,

02:16which no other Filipina has ever done before.

02:19So you can imagine, even for a man, it's hard to get nine times bodyweight.

02:23Ramirez and Umpud are still continuing their training

02:27with the entire member of the Powerlifting Association of the Philippines

02:31for their upcoming competitions.
