Shaun Maloney opens up on losing Stephen Humphrys over the summer

Wigan Athletic boss Shaun Maloney has discussed the departure of Stephen Humphrys in the summer ahead of the match against Barnsley.

00:08difficult for him the last few months. I know he wanted to stay. From my point of view,

00:14I was desperate for him to stay but the finances couldn't allow it. I think he was disappointed

00:21and that's obviously the life of a manager. I have a budget, I have to stick to it. But

00:28in terms of what he did for me and the team and the club, when I came back in, it wasn't

00:34the most positive noise around him, mainly from previous staff. But in terms of what

00:40he gave me, literally from day one, I loved working with him. He did brilliantly for me

00:46on the pitch. He scored three goals against our biggest rivals. He scored big goals for

00:50the club as well financially and also competitive-wise. We got magnetted last year because of the

00:58what he did in York. I've got nothing but good things to say about him. I know it was hard

01:03the last few months. He's quite a deep boy. I like his parents, I like their backgrounds,
