Hello and happy Friday from the Bureau of Meteorology.
00:03
Friday means one thing, time to check out the national weather forecast for the country
00:07
for the weekend, starting on Saturday the 16th of November.
00:10
There's a bit going on as well, we see this cold front in the south here and before that
00:14
arrives it is going to generate some very warm, windy conditions across the southeast
00:19
with extreme fire danger for many places.
00:23
Storms have been a bit of a mainstay on our forecast maps this week and we could see more
00:26
stormy weather for parts of Queensland, the NT and central and northern Western Australia
00:32
throughout the course of the weekend.
00:33
Let's start up in Queensland for our trip around the country, quite widespread showers
00:38
on Saturday, including parts of the northeast which have mostly enjoyed a dry week so far.
00:43
If you are near the east coast, most of the showers are likely to stay just as showers
00:48
and we don't expect to see too much storm development except potentially around the
00:52
Rockhampton area.
00:53
Inland parts of Queensland though could see some significant thunderstorms, maybe some
00:57
severe thunderstorms including parts of the Maranoa and Warago, parts of the Central Highlands
01:02
and maybe around the Burnett district as well.
01:05
One area which is likely to stay dry is the southwest of the state but it will be hot
01:08
with extreme fire danger.
01:11
A few showers are expected along the New South Wales coast through the day on Saturday, getting
01:15
very isolated as the day goes on.
01:17
That means after lunch many people will see a dry, bright afternoon with very little or
01:22
no further rainfall.
01:24
A few storms are possible around the western slopes and plains and the far inland of New
01:28
South Wales.
01:29
At this stage any storms which do develop look unlikely to bring significant rainfall
01:33
but may bring some strong wind gusts.
01:36
Temperatures really climbing across Victoria on Saturday, large parts of the state into
01:40
the 30s and that's the mid 30s for many areas as well.
01:44
As is usual during spring, if it's this warm it's also likely to be quite windy and that
01:48
is certainly the case on Saturday.
01:50
The warm, windy conditions will bring extreme fire dangers to parts of the northwest.
01:55
We can see the cool change here out to the far west at the end of the day on Saturday,
01:59
meaning that is not likely to sweep across the state until early on Sunday.
02:04
It is going to be a warmer day across Tasmania after some chilly weather this week.
02:08
Temperatures 5 to 7 degrees warmer in most areas, quite windy and quite cloudy through
02:13
your day.
02:14
One or two light showers possible for northwards facing coastlines and about the mountains
02:18
but any rainfall that does come through is expected to be very light.
02:23
A hot and windy day across South Australia on Saturday, numerous locations see their
02:28
temperatures into the 40s including up in the north here but also some places further
02:32
south, Wyella with 40 degrees, Murray Bridge could see 40 degrees, Adelaide a forecast
02:37
high of 37.
02:39
The warm and windy conditions will bring widespread extreme fire danger and possibly even catastrophic
02:44
fire danger around the Eyre Peninsula.
02:47
That means that any bushfires that do begin on Saturday could spread very rapidly and
02:52
be very difficult to contain.
02:54
We will see a cool change with some showery weather moving from the west through the course
02:58
of the day, moving through these western areas around the middle of the day, perhaps across
03:02
the Eyre Peninsula late afternoon or early evening, with the cooler weather and those
03:06
showers not arriving in Adelaide and the southeast until very late on Saturday night, perhaps
03:11
first thing on Sunday morning.
03:14
A dry mild day for most of southern Western Australia including 25 degrees and sunshine
03:19
for Perth, quite breezy along the south coast.
03:23
Warm and a little windy for the west and the north west with the storm risk continuing
03:27
inland and we could see some strong winds and some heavy rainfall with these storms
03:31
which may cut some outback roads.
03:35
And across the north, showers and storms expected to continue in similar areas to recent days
03:39
which means the western top end, the Kimberley here, the Gregory area and parts of the Carpentaria.
03:45
Anyone in the north who doesn't get the cooling effect that comes in with showers or storms
03:49
will have another hot and humid day.
03:52
Hot conditions also expected across southern NT with windy weather as well and that won't
03:56
help with ongoing bushfires in this part of the country.
04:00
We've only got time for a really quick look at Sunday but let's have a look nonetheless
04:04
active weather across the southeast.
04:06
We will have widespread rainfall for southern South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and southern
04:11
and central NSW including potentially some heavy falls around the mountain ranges, some
04:15
strong or damaging winds across the mountains too and severe thunderstorms particularly
04:20
for southern NSW and the far north of Victoria.
04:23
Away from this corner, a little bit more of a benign day across the east coast for northern
04:27
NSW and Queensland with the warm stormy conditions continuing around the north and the west.
04:34
To see what the weekend has in store for your area, find your forecast on the Bureau
04:37
website or app.
04:38
Thanks for watching and have a great weekend.
