Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) that helps people learn new skills to manage their emotions and build a better life. DBT helps people learn to accept who they are and change unhelpful ways of thinking and behaving. It also teaches people to recognize that two opposite things can be true at the same time, and to try to "walk the middle path"
DBT was originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and chronic suicidality, but it can also help with other mental health conditions, including depression, eating disorders, and substance use disorders
