People of Glasgow share their thoughts on charging students for higher education

We take to the streets of Glasgow to ask Glaswegians if they think higher education should remain free in Scotland amid a financial crisis.

00:00Absolutely not. I think higher education should be free nationally. I think it's a disgrace

00:03that people are having to pay for that sort of thing. I think it's... I was lucky enough

00:09to be a student back when I had a grant and back when I had my fees paid. It gives children

00:15or gives teenagers the freedom to study what they want. I think the minute you start placing

00:21financial restrictions on people, they are forced to make decisions that might not be

00:26exactly right for them. And I think further education is important, not just in terms

00:31of jobs, in terms of career, but just in terms of the development of people. And I think

00:37any subject studied is a subject worth studying, if you know what I mean. So no, I completely

00:43disagree with any restrictions on study. And I really disagree with the idea of charging

00:49students for it. I really think it's a bad thing.

00:51Higher education should be completely free to everyone. And I'm careful what I say here,

00:58but to Scottish people.
