00:00The marathon sessions for deliberations on the proposed national budget are not letting up in
00:04the Senate. And in today's hearing, the prevailing culture of silence and shyness in the country's
00:09main weather forecasting agency came to light, with the discovery of more than half of Pagasas
00:15Doppler radars not working. Our Daniel Manalastas has more on the story,
00:20plus the proposed budget of the PNP, which also drew scrutiny and inquiry.
00:25As Senators continue to deliberate on the 2025 proposed national budget,
00:31one of the problems encountered in today's proceedings was the discovery of Pagasas
00:36non-functioning instruments critical in accurate weather forecasting. It came to
00:40light, or to the attention of the Senators, that some Doppler radars aren't working.
00:45Doppler radars are critically important equipment to monitor rainfall, like the
00:50volume tropical storm Christine dumped all over the country.
01:04Senator Zubiri defended Pagasa meanwhile saying they need to be sufficiently funded
01:10for the equipment it needs, among others.
01:20Meanwhile, during the Philippine National Police budget deliberations,
01:34Senators inquired on the issues hounding former Mayor Alice Guo. Senators asked whether or not
01:40there were policemen in cahoots with politicians involved in Guo's escape.
01:50Other agencies who faced today's Senate deliberations include
02:19the Defense Department and other executive offices and agencies.
