00:00Good afternoon, I'm Claire, the nostalgia writer for the Lancashire Post, and this video
00:05hones in on the First World War in our city.
00:08Preston played a significant role in the war contribution, both in manpower and industrial
00:12resources. Thousands of men from Preston enlisted, joining the army in the national war effort.
00:19The cotton mills, which were a cornerstone of the local economy, shifted production to
00:22support the war. They made military uniforms and other essential supplies. Women took on
00:28jobs previously held by men, working in factories and serving as nurses. These emotive pictures
00:34are a window into what life was like in wartime Preston.
