Denmark issues first coin with King Frederik's portrait  Denmark’s Central Bank issues on Oct. 31, 2024 its first coins bearing the portrait of King Frederik X, who ascended to the throne in January after the surprise abdication of his mother, Queen Margrethe II in her new year’s eve speech. The commemorative 20 crown coin is engraved with the portrait of King Frederik X on one side and Queen Margrethe on the other. Around one million of the coins will be put into circulation and they will also be available for purchase to members of the public. 00:00This is the front page of the coin where we have the newly Denmark's king, the year of

00:12production 2024 and then his royal motto is also printed on it.

00:18And on the back side we have the portrait of Queen Margaret the second.

00:24The front side is the portrait of the new king.

00:29Friday 1st of November is a very special occasion for the Central Bank of Denmark because that's

00:35the day when we issue the first coin with the portrait of the king of Denmark, the new

00:42king of Denmark, King Frederick the 10th.

00:45So this will be the day where we issue a commemorative coin that marks the occasion of our new king

00:52assuming the throne and our former Queen Margaret the second abdicating from the throne.

00:59For something in Denmark by using cash that you can get one of these coins back.

01:05Well I think we were all quite surprised 31st of December last year at I think it was seven

01:13minutes past six in the evening during the Queen's New Year's speech when she announced

01:18her resignation or abdication.

01:22And from that point efforts were put into designing this new coin and also putting it

01:30into production.

01:32This is the front of the coin where we have the newly established portrait.

01:38We aim towards next year to issue more coins with portraits and motifs linked to our new

01:47king where both the 1, 2, 5 and 10 crowns will also be updated with new motifs linked

01:57to the new king.

02:00Cash handling companies in Denmark, they will make sure that it enters into the new classic.
