00:24The Department of Science and Technology, or DOST, emphasized
00:28during the recently conducted Saliklakbay Solutions Mapping and Immersion
00:32in the Mangyan Indigenous People Community in Barangay Naibuan, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.
00:38Saliklakbay is part of the DOST Grassroots Innovation for Inclusive Development or GRIND Program,
00:45which aims to capture solutions crafted by the people in the communities
00:50to solve their problems using resources that are available in their area.
00:55The Saliklakbay, from the words Saliksik and Paglalakbay,
01:00is a process that not only helps the seed,
01:05but also gives the power to the local innovators
01:09and strengthens their voices and contributions.
01:14Some innovations shared by the locals are related to handicrafts such as weaving techniques,
01:20local plants used for curing diseases like sore eyes and even snake venom,
01:25and improvised machinery for agriculture.
01:28The DOST Ni Maropa team documented these innovations
01:32to learn about their origin as part of the research process to develop the technology.
01:37What we want to do is to introduce the solutions that are being thought of by our community
01:44and make it better so that we can deploy it to other communities
01:53that are in need of the same solutions that were created by the community level.
01:59Barangay Naibuan is one of the Mangyian IP communities in San Jose Town.
02:03It is a far-flung community located at the mountainous part of the municipality.
02:09In Occidental Mindoro, there are eight Mangyian IP tribes, namely
