Firefighters' plea ahead of Bonfire Night
Transcript
00:00Hi, my name is Stephen and I've served with Tyneware Fire and Rescue Service for over 18 years.
00:05During that time I've worked several bonfire nights and witnessed first-hand violence against firefighters whilst they carry out their work, helping the community.
00:13In 2023 there were 51 attacks against fire crews in the Tyneware area, with five of those attacks occurring during the bonfire period. This is unacceptable.
00:23As we approach this year's bonfire period, I'd like to encourage members of the public to please attend organised bonfires and fireworks displays.
00:31Please don't mess around and throw fireworks, or in any way attack or make it difficult for our fire crews to do their job.
00:38Please remember, firefighters are no different to any other member of our society. Experienced violence at work can have lasting physical and psychological effects.
00:47So let's do everything we can to make this year's bonfire night as safe as possible for everyone, including our crews. Thank you.
