00:00Local authorities across the country are facing housing issues, and Cardiff is no different,
00:06with a massive number of people currently on a housing waiting list in the city.
00:10Roughly 8,000 people are currently waiting for a home in the city, with many of them
00:16being forced to live out of hotels in the meantime.
00:19Cardiff Council's Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Councillor Linda Thorn, has
00:24said that the situation is scary, and despite seeing improvements in recent months, she
00:29says that more needs to be done.
00:33She says that five hotels around the city have been entirely repurposed for social housing,
00:37and families living in hotel rooms feel trapped and isolated.
00:42The council has its own unit called The Gas Works, which has 155 units for those in need
00:47of housing, as well as turning some units into self-contained accommodation with support
00:52on site, hoping to bring an end or at least ease the ongoing saga.
