00:00Hi guys and welcome to DriveSpark, I'm Prameet and today what we are driving, you must have
00:09seen this car on Top Gear if you remember that episode where in Top Gear they literally
00:14tried to destroy a Toyota, they sank it in water, they dropped it from a building, they
00:21even dropped a car on it and a boulder on it and that car lived all of that and now
00:28it is at the Top Gear Museum, yes that was the Toyota Hilux and today what we are driving
00:34is the latest avatar of that very same vehicle.
00:38So let's quickly start this video and I'll tell you everything you need to know about
00:41this SUV.
00:53So let's start talking about from the front end of the vehicle, the very first thing you
00:57notice that this is actually a very big SUV, it is more, I mean it is a pickup truck, you
01:03can call it an SUV slash pickup truck, more like a pickup truck and this has some serious
01:10road presence, I must say that, so and you have a lot of things going on in the front,
01:15you have LED headlights, DRLs, fog lights, all are LED, but I wish that the throw from
01:20the headlights could have been a little more better, obviously you have a big grill, lot
01:25of chrome around and since, I mean this has the decals, the Hilux decals all around, when
01:32you go to buy the vehicle, you will obviously get an option for this, so this is another
01:36thing that you can get customised from the dealership.
01:39So with the decals, the car looks slightly more and first of all, the decals help really
01:44because when you're off-roading and there are branches here and there, it definitely
01:47takes the beating and your body is free from scratches, also if you move on, you will see
01:52you get wheel arches, obviously, massive wheel arches, you got cladding all around
01:58and you have 18-inch wheels with 80 tyres, that is all-terrain tyres and apart from that,
02:04you can see that you get a sidestep and this thing gets around 220mm of ground clearance,
02:11which is obviously a lot, then you also have your ORVM that is actually finished, I mean
02:17half-partition chrome and black, looks good, it's got integrated indicators, the door handles
02:22are finished in chrome and a lot of things are chrome on this car, making the presence
02:26slightly more better and slightly more on the premium side, well also, if you move to
02:32the back, you will see you get LED taillights, LED indicators, you get LED reverse light
02:37and plus you have a step to go inside the bed or the trunk, as you can call it, but
02:42obviously, it is open, if you talk about the space, it may look like there is a lot of
02:47space inside that, but actually, that thing can only, I mean, the official boot space,
02:52the litre is around 435, yes, it may sound very less, but obviously, you can stack a
02:59lot of things up that and they have given some hooks to tie whatever you have placed
03:06on top of each other, so I mean, yeah, you can literally transport your entire house
03:11in this vehicle, also, if we talk about the interior, so interior is basically, now you
03:16see over here, this may look like soft as material, there is soft as material on the
03:19door pad and everything, but rest, if you can see, everything is plastic, but it is
03:25very good quality plastic, keeping the off-road adventure theme in mind and since this is
03:30a rough off-road vehicle, so yeah, they definitely tried to keep some leathers off, so that it
03:36can easily be wiped if it's dirty and apart from that, the interiors feel slightly dated,
03:43so you have this old kind of touch screen that does not have Apple CarPlay and Android
03:46Auto, well, however, there are haptic buttons, this has dual zone climate control, it also
03:52gets your charging connections away, it does not get a wireless charger, your cluster again
03:57feels kind of dated because obviously, it has a MID screen in between and then there
04:01is analog meters on either side, steering wheel is nice, I would say, it is good to
04:08grip, it has your steering motor controls on a very correct place and everything has
04:12a haptic touch, you have cruise control over here, then obviously, you have a stick over
04:16here, says it's got DPF, so it has auto DPF generation and apart from that, you have a
04:21lot of storage space in the vehicle, it also gets a JBL sound system that sounds really
04:26good but could have been slightly better because when you increase the bass, it starts trembling
04:32a lot, also the rear seat, let me talk about the rear, so the rear obviously is narrow,
04:39it does not get a lot of rear comfort, so tall people would have slight issues, however,
04:44there are three headrests but only two can be easily, I mean, so the cabin inside, the
04:48car may look very big from outside but from inside the cabin, the front, in the front,
04:52it's fine, obviously, the driver's side is only electrical adjustable but the passenger
04:56side is manually adjustable, so all of these things, you get a six-speed automatic gearbox
05:02over here, you have your power modes and yeah, so I was telling the car may look very big
05:08from outside but it is definitely not very big from the inside, especially the second
05:14row or the rear seat, however, everything feels slightly dated but I mean, it'll do
05:19your purpose as this is an off-road vehicle.
05:21Now, let's talk about the engine of the car, so this is powered by 2.8-litre, the turbo
05:27diesel engine and this pumps out 201bhp of power and 500Nm of peak torque and this thing,
05:33if floored, it literally just goes, it is very torquey, as I would say, so it either
05:40comes with a manual, a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter gearbox, our
05:44torque converter gearbox is really, really nice, you also have, so since this is a 4x4,
05:49you have a shift by wire 4x4 technology but we still tell you to kind of stop the vehicle
05:57and move into 4 high or 4 low and you have a locking differential, you have hill descent,
06:02you have the works, this is a proper off-roader that can take you anywhere without you getting
06:08stuck, road, no road, not at all a problem for this vehicle, so, I mean, yeah, definitely,
06:15so one thing I would say that living with this vehicle on a daily basis could be slightly
06:19difficult, I can personally live with it, but it can be slightly difficult because of
06:23the suspension setup that it gets, it obviously gets a coilover setup at the front, but it
06:28gets a leaf spring setup at the back where your bed is, so you can basically put more
06:33load and once the load has been put, the truck really drives well, it is more planted, it
06:40feels more stable, anyway, it is stable, there is a lot of body roll, I would say, and I
06:45mean, even the smallest of undulations on the road can be felt because of the soft suspension
06:50setup, well, however, the steering is nice, it is slightly on the heavier side, which
06:54I really like, but at the same time, manoeuvring through the city traffic will not be difficult
06:59at all, also, what I would really say is that Eco mode is best because right now we are
07:05getting around 13.7 kilometres to a litre, which is really nice and if you cruise, you
07:10will get up to like 15 or 16 maybe, around the right cruising speed, that is 80 to 100
07:16and also since there are scoops control, so you can obviously put that and you can relax,
07:20you don't need to worry about putting your leg on the throttle, just be on the brake
07:25and the car will do its work.
07:27So now, let us talk about the pricing of this vehicle, so this Hilux that currently we are
07:32driving is a top of the line automatic variant and this is priced at somewhere 38 lakh rupees
07:38ex-showroom, well, you have two variants in this, one is a standard and one is a high,
07:42so the standard one comes at around 30 lakh rupees ex-showroom, but that is only available
07:46in manual, the high variant is available with a manual and an automatic, so this is
07:51the automatic, so on road, you will get this vehicle somewhere between, say, between 44
07:57to 45 lakh, but, I mean, some dealerships are definitely giving some discounts on the
08:04ex-showroom price, so you can go check that out and you can pick yourself a Hilux if you
08:09have the budget, so in this price, this car is just awesome, got a beautiful engine, very
08:16torquey engine, it's, obviously, the interiors could have been slightly better, but it will
08:20do the job really well, apart from that, it drives well, you can shift your luggage, load
08:27everywhere, plus, obviously, this thing is a looker, so when you stop the car or you
08:31park it or you're driving it, people definitely look at it and this definitely turns head.
08:36So this was the Toyota Hilux, the vehicle that cannot be destroyed according to Top Gear,
08:41well, obviously, we will not be doing tests like those, but definitely, this is a very
08:45nice vehicle to drive around, it may look big, but it definitely, I mean, you can move
08:50through traffic easily and people definitely give you way.
