00:14Also, getting your face wrapped on a taxi, that's cool.

00:19I haven't seen them yet on the cabs outside.

00:23I think I'm arriving in one with my face on it.

00:30Also, you guys put our faces on buses.

00:32Yes, it's true.

00:33Not me personally, but there is the big red buses.

00:36I'm sure we'll see them now.

00:42I'm not at that level yet.

00:43But that's so cool.

00:45How do you feel about meeting everybody, all the fans?

00:48Because obviously I know the fan base.

00:50It's incredible because how I found out my face was on a bus

00:52was through a fan of the UK.

00:55They're like, do you know your face is on a bus?

00:57And I'm like, I take that big red bus every time I come here

01:00because I am that person.

01:02Do you not put your face on buses across the pond?

01:06No, they don't do that.

01:07No?

01:08Maybe we need to change that.

01:09Your face should be on all the buses all over the world.

01:11Well, they have BravoCon.

01:13So that's the big face, right?

01:16I love that for you.

01:17So you're on cabs, you're on buses.

01:19We're just going to see so much of you, and we love to see it.

01:21And now we have FanFest.

01:24I mean, how are you feeling about this?

01:25Because honestly, so many of my friends are giddy about meeting you guys.

01:30I think it's incredible that we're able to do that.

01:33Who thinks of that?

01:34I know.

01:35I mean, it's awesome.

01:37We get to come to London.

01:39We get a nice little hotel.

01:40This is posh.

01:42And taken to a party.

01:44It's pretty cool.

01:45It's just like living the dream.

01:46Aren't you just basically living the dream, Sandy?

01:47Is that what's happening?

01:48Living the dream, yes.

01:50And listen, I remember my first dip into reality TV

01:54was Big Brother and stuff when I was younger.

01:56I'm 32 now.

01:57So I would say over the past 20 years,

02:00reality TV has just become this massive phenomenon.

02:04It's just getting bigger and bigger.

02:06Why do you think we're all obsessed?

02:08You know, I think it's how they...

02:11I think it's relatable for a lot of people.

02:14And I'm sure a lot of people go,

02:17Oh, my gosh.

02:18I actually did that or acted like that.

02:20As far as Below Deck, I think it's a great show.

02:23It highlights a lot of wonderful things as well.

02:26Travel, the boat, the careers,

02:29and they're actually working.

02:33And they get it together somehow

02:35and come upstairs with a smile and continue to do their job.

02:39That's pretty good.

02:40That's resilience.

02:41It's such escapism as well, Below Deck,

02:43because, like you say, the boat, you're on holiday,

02:45but then you do get invested in all the relationships

02:48and what's going on.

02:49How did you first come to get involved with Below Deck?

02:52How did it all happen?

02:53It came to me.

02:54I didn't seek it.

02:56The showrunner messaged me.

02:59So I thought, Why not?

03:01It's giving. I don't chase. I attract.

03:04I didn't even know.

03:06I had heard about the show.

03:08I never watched it.

03:09I was always at sea.

03:11I was working.

03:12We didn't watch TV.

03:13Really?

03:14I suppose you can't when you're in the middle of the Atlantic.

03:17And it was so hard.

03:18We didn't have tracking satellites like we do now.

03:20We put them on the dock and had to track it.

03:22You didn't have TV underway.

03:25I always think, as well,

03:26filming on the water is such a challenge in itself.

03:29Has there ever been a cameraman

03:31that's just went overboard or something?

03:33No.

03:34Oh, my gosh.

03:35Knock on wood.

03:36No, because in films and stuff,

03:38that does happen, obviously, a lot.

03:40Has there been equipment or anything that's fallen over?

03:43Not on our boat.

03:44Is it because you're in charge?

03:46No, it's just that they...

03:48Listen, I'm not in charge of everybody, right?

03:50So they're in charge of themselves to keep themselves safe.

03:53But, yes, I'm in charge of their safety.

03:55We haven't had that happen, thankfully.

03:57And do you just, like, obviously ignore the cameras

04:00because you're very focused on what you're doing, right?

04:03They have the fourth wall.

04:05You know, you'll say, Good morning,

04:07but they'll get in trouble.

04:10So you don't want them to get in trouble.

04:12You want them there to follow the crew.

04:14So then what was that like for you,

04:16kind of adjusting to, like, trying to focus on your job,

04:19but also know that you're a TV star?

04:22How was that adjusting?

04:23I don't think about that.

04:25Because I was a captain before I was on television,

04:27so my natural way of being is what you see on TV.

04:32But you are a star now, Sandy.

04:34Like, people love you.

04:36I don't know if you're ready for the chaos

04:38that's going to happen at this fan fest.

04:40Well, I wish I had the money that stars have.

04:42Well, don't we all?

04:43I know.

04:44That's the story of my life, to be quite honest with you.

04:47What have been some of your kind of highlights, then,

04:50of the whole process?

04:52Working with the people.

04:54The crew, the film crew, the networks.

04:59Working with those people.

05:01It is really, it's about relationships, right?

05:04So you can have these experiences.

05:06You could be alone in London,

05:08or you could be with someone that you don't really want to be with.

05:11It just changes everything.

05:13And when you like the people you work with,

05:15it's cool, it's fun.

05:18I love it.

05:20It's a great group of people.

05:22It's so underestimated.

05:24Having good people and a good team is just incredible.

05:27And then on the flip side of that,

05:29what have been some of the kind of rockiest charters

05:32that you've ever had?

05:34Has it always been just difficult clients, maybe,

05:36that make it challenging?

05:38Really, the clients, not so much as the weather.

05:41So weather really affects the charter.

05:45If the boat's not functioning properly,

05:48the clients we need.

05:50Sometimes they're demanding.

05:52Sometimes an expectation can be seen as demanding,

05:55but it's just an expectation,

05:57which is rightfully so if you pay that kind of money.

05:59Others can be rude.

06:01That's when I step in.

06:03But the majority of the challenge is the weather.

06:06And the crew.

06:08The crew are a lot like the weather.

06:10Unpredictable.

06:12Emotional.

06:14Sometimes scary.

06:17I don't know if I remember Laura.

06:19Listen, I'm obsessed.

06:21She scared me.

06:23For Hannah.

06:25Do you find sometimes you're almost just like a mother as well?

06:28Because sometimes it is like,

06:30the crew are just like unruly teenagers at points.

06:33I look at it as like their coach.

06:35Like a sports team.

06:38Because when it's a parent,

06:40they can get away with it, right?

06:42And they know there won't be consequences.

06:45Sometimes there's consequences, but if it's a coach,

06:47sometimes you get kicked off the team.

06:49Your pay gets docked.

06:51It's so funny when the crew do something.

06:53Even when I'm filming, I'm like,

06:55you know that's coming out of your tip money.

06:57They don't know if it's true or not.

06:59You must have met so many people as well

07:01that come through the crew process as well.

07:03Because obviously some people maybe come and do it for a while

07:05and then go off to do other things.

07:07Of course. There's a lot of that. That's fine.

07:09As long as they do their job.

07:11What does it take to be on your crew then?

07:14What do you look for?

07:16What are the key things that you need to be good at?

07:18Well, if I hire the crew outside of the television show,

07:21character, I hire for character.

07:24And then you need some skill set, right?

07:26So you can teach everything else,

07:28but you want strong character.

07:30See, that's the most important thing.

07:32See, now you've said that,

07:34I don't think I'd be very good at the technical stuff,

07:36but I'm the personality hire.

07:38I feel like character-wise I could maybe get on board.

07:40Excuse the pun. I didn't even mean that.

07:44Sandy's like, absolutely not.

07:46She's not coming on that boat.

07:48You have a great personality. You can learn.

07:50I know, but I don't think I could be calm

07:52when the clients are being rude.

07:54I'm Scottish. I've got a temper. That's the problem.
