Hello. The longest weekend of the year is here and for many there will be quite a bit
00:06
of sunshine around. But not for everybody. Right now we've got a big swirl of cloud down
00:11
to the southwest. That's an area of low pressure bringing some quite gusty conditions across
00:15
Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. There's a weather front from that low pressure drifting
00:19
north bringing some cloud and patchy rain. But for large chunks of the country much of
00:24
the night will be dry and clear and that means it could turn a little misty. The cloud will
00:28
thicken up through the night across the far southeast with a little bit of drizzly rain
00:32
creeping in here. Mostly the air is coming up from the south so it's still pretty mild.
00:38
We could dip down to single figures but many towns and cities will start the weekend in
00:41
double digits. On to the details for Saturday and it's a bit of a messy one. For many it'll
00:47
be a fine day but there will be more cloud across East Anglia and the southeast compared
00:52
to Friday and at times some patchy rain will come and go here. The rain likely to be a
00:58
little more persistent and heavier across northwest Scotland as this band of rain pushes
01:02
south into the west of Scotland by the end of the day and across Northern Ireland as
01:06
well. So after a dry start here we will see rain moving in. Still quite breezy initially
01:10
in the southwest but the winds easing here and for much of southwest England, Midlands,
01:14
Wales, most of northern England. It's a good looking Saturday. Fine and dry with some sunshine
01:20
coming through lifting those temperatures up above average 15, 16, maybe 17 Celsius.
01:25
There is cooler air coming in behind this rain band and that will be pushing south
01:30
during Saturday evening spreading the wet weather through the central belt on Saturday
01:34
evening and then some of that rain arriving across parts of northern England before as
01:39
you can see tending to just fizzle out as we go through the early hours of Sunday morning.
01:44
As it does so and that colder air arrives expect a chillier start to Sunday compared
01:49
to Saturday. Temperatures much more widely down to single figures. The low single figures
01:55
and a touch of frost is possible in some rural spots. So yes a chillier start to Sunday
01:59
but by and large a cracking start. A sunny day thanks to this area of high pressure moving
02:06
in. Now that's going to stick around across the south but look at this. There is a set
02:10
of weather fronts drifting in towards the north. So that will change things up here
02:14
after a mostly dry start in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The cloud will spill in quite quickly
02:18
through the morning and then outbreaks of rain will come trickling in as well eventually
02:22
getting to eastern Scotland across Northern Ireland and maybe down to the far northwest
02:27
of England by the end of the day. But for a good chunk of England and Wales most of
02:31
the day will be dry and fine as the sunshine may turn rather hazy over northern England
02:35
and Wales. But by and large a fine autumn day and temperatures will be lower than Saturday's
02:41
but still I suspect feeling pretty pleasant. We might squeak up to 14 or 15. It will of
02:46
course feel cooler with a wet and breezy weather across the far northwest from that weather
02:51
system moving in. But high pressure will dominate for much of next week which is probably
02:56
good news if you are on half term. For more on that subscribe to our YouTube channel and
