00:12The story of Blitz is so emotional.
00:16A boy and his mother lose each other,
00:18and it's all about them trying to come back together.
00:22I want you to go on a journey through a child's eyes
00:25during war, and as he goes along, he sees things.
00:28He becomes less of a child,
00:29and into something else.
00:32When I was told about what kids were going through
00:35during the Blitz, it felt really bad,
00:38because some kids would go and never come back.
00:41And being the parent that most,
00:43I've been really heartbreaking.
00:46I'm sorry to say it's been brought to our attention
00:48that your son did not arrive at his destination.

00:55These stories were there.
00:56What was extraordinary was the reality of what happened.
01:00It felt very real, and it was scary.
01:02But I felt humanity.
01:04I jumped off the train, because I want to go home.

01:11Steve McQueen, apart from having a great cinematic eye,

01:18and so visuals are how he tells his stories.

01:24Everything about this film feels incredibly authentic.
01:27I think it's a true portrayal of London.
01:31You don't have to stretch your imagination too far,
01:33because you're completely immersed within this world.
01:37There's so many different elements to it,
01:39universal themes, regardless of time and space.
01:43The importance of family really rings true.
01:46There's no place like home.
01:48It's all about love.
01:49It's a love story between George and his mother.
01:53It's not about stiff upper lip or keep calm and carry on.
01:55It's painful, but it's beautiful.
01:57It's something that we can all relate to,
01:59and we always will.
