00:00Good morning, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers. It's always
00:05lovely to speak to the students at the University of Chichester because they're just so enthusiastic,
00:10particularly so Vivi and Sophia who are on the Musical Theatre Triple Threat course
00:16and they are taking to the stage before long with Pippin. Now Sophia, what's Pippin all about would
00:22you say? So Pippin tells the story of this group of travelling players and they are putting on this
00:31story of Pippin and they repeat the story all the time, they tell the story and it tells the tale
00:40of the character of Pippin. He's a prince and he just finished university and it's about him
00:45going into the world and trying to find his place in life and find fulfilment and meaning to
00:52everything and yeah that's the story of Pippin. That sounds great and Lily you are sharing this
00:57role then, you're alternating are you? Yes. And Lily you were saying that you are playing this
01:04role in different ways which is part of the fun of it isn't it? Oh absolutely, I mean we've kind
01:10of only just started getting it up on its feet recently but it's been just like a joy to see the
01:15differences and watch each other perform. I quite like to play Pippin as a more grounded character
01:21but with this kind of hopeful twinkle and you know self-discovery so that the audience can
01:27really see he was an everyday man that they can relate to and Sophia you're very energetic and
01:32incredibly entertaining. Just getting swept up in the excitement of being in this performance with
01:37all these other actors. That must be such an important lesson because clearly there's no
01:43one way you must perform a particular role, it's what you bring to it. Yeah and I think especially
01:49with this show that is really every interpretation is so different. Oh it sounds brilliant and Lily
01:55you are loving your time in Chichester aren't you? Yes it's been absolutely wonderful, the community
02:02is incredible, the teaching quality is incredible. I auditioned two years in a row so I feel very
02:09lucky to be here and you know be studying with everyone, yeah it's amazing. And Sophia you would
02:14absolutely agree with that wouldn't you? Oh yeah. What makes a good place to be as far as
02:21your concerns Sophia? I think just the environment here is so safe and encouraging and everyone just
02:33wants everyone to just be the best version of themselves and that's so encouraged here
02:38and it's intense but it's so fun at the same time it doesn't feel like it's intense at any point
02:45it just feels like everyone's just here doing what they love together. Brilliant. Well you're
02:49both second years so you've got plenty more to come in Chichester haven't you? Yeah. The show
02:54is Pippin and it's from the Musical Theatre Triple Threat course at the University of Chichester.
02:59Really lovely to speak to you both, good luck with the show and good luck with future careers.
03:03Thank you so much, it's been lovely to speak to you. Thank you.
