00:00Malaysia has been recognized as one of the 13 BRICS partner countries, Bernama reported.

00:07According to BRICS News, the bloc officially added 13 nations to the alliance as partner

00:12countries today.

00:14Economy Minister Rafizieh Ramli is representing Malaysia at the ongoing BRICS summit in Kazan,

00:19Russia, which currently chairs the bloc.

00:22On July 28th, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that Malaysia had applied to join

00:26the BRICS intergovernmental organization.

00:30BRICS, originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India and China, was established in 2009 as

00:36a cooperation platform for emerging economies.

00:40In the years that followed, the bloc expanded its membership to include South Africa, Iran,

00:46Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates.

00:50BRICS represents about 40% of the global population and accounts for a cumulative gross domestic

00:55product of US$26.6 trillion.
