00:22to this cruel, cold exchange between them.

00:27Nick's come to keep you company while you're away.

00:34Robert's feeling of betrayal gives way to a much deeper well of resentment

00:39that he has towards Catherine.

00:41So now he's punishing her.

00:43We do battle a lot as parents, I think, to protect our children

00:48from parts of ourselves that we haven't processed.

00:50And that moment just allows him to explode.

00:54Nick has read that book. You cannot tell him.

00:58But his mother's a liar and a hypocrite.

01:01His own personal insecurity, in a way, stops Catherine from speaking.

01:07So both of them are not their best selves in that moment.

01:11You didn't tell me for 20 years that our son almost drowned.

01:14He nearly died because he fell asleep after a fabulous holiday.

01:19Once we kind of find out the deep, dark, seeming secrets of the family,

01:24we start to see that Nicholas is being used somewhat as a pawn by his father

01:29within a larger game.

01:31Nicholas already has so much anger towards Catherine,

01:34and normally Robert acts as the buffer between them.

01:37But now he's really fanning those flames

01:40to further drive this wedge between her and their son.

01:45Nicholas' hate and rage is being directed, much like a weapon, at his mother.

01:51It's a really tough one to grasp,

01:53and it's something that you just kind of have to go on the ride on,

01:55and it's a very destructive part.
