00:13Hello from the Russian city of Kazan,

00:15where the 16th Summit of the BRICS Alliance has kicked off today

00:19with the arrival of Alliance members, presidents and prime ministers,

00:25as well as others.

00:2636 countries are joining this summit,

00:2922 of them at the level of head of government or head of state,

00:34and its first successes are already there.

00:38Ahead of the summit,

00:40China and India agreed to lower the tensions at their Himalaya borders,

00:47tensions that were heating up since four years,

00:51and they have come to an agreement,

00:53an important point, because their tensions have always been presented

00:58by Western sources as a reason, a main reason,

01:02why the BRICS Alliance would not work in the long run,

01:05because these two giants would not come to terms with each other.

01:10They did so, and they did also confirm that their presidents,

01:14the Chinese presidents Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi,

01:20will have a bilateral meeting here on the summit,

01:23thus displaying lowering tensions and progressing and deepening relations

01:47has held bilateral meetings with the Indian prime minister,

01:56and all these bilateral meetings were accompanied by very warm comments.

02:02For instance, the Indian prime minister said after the meeting

02:05that it was, I quote, a wonderful one, he said, on social media.

02:11The South African president called Russia a valuable ally,

02:15and of course the Chinese president reiterated again

02:19the strategic nature of the cooperation between China and Russia.

02:25Another important point already also achieved by this summit

02:29is the participation of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas,

02:35who has arrived two days ago in Moscow to meet Vladimir Putin

02:40and who was invited to join the summit.

02:43This is important because his ambassador, the Palestinian ambassador in Russia,

02:51that his country would apply for BRICS membership.
