A new law will be drafted by the government to allow prisoners to serve their jail sentences under house arrest, according to Budget 2025 which was tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Parliament on Friday (Oct 18). 00:00Under Budget 2025, the Government plans to introduce a new law which allows prisoners

00:08to serve their jail sentences under house arrest.

00:11This will serve as an alternative punishment for certain offences.

00:15The convict will be required to be detained at a suitable location such as a residential

00:21home, a care centre or workers' dormitory throughout the detention period.

00:26The prisoner will be subject to monitoring and terms set by the prison officer.

00:31Presently, there are no legal provisions governing the issue.

00:42The topic on such a law is part of the 53rd effort outlined under the Budget to provide

00:48a second chance to convicts and companies which had been declared bankrupt.

00:53The part was not read out by Prime Minister Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim when he was tabling

00:57the Budget in Parliament on Friday.
